I agree with the other sentiments. What if they tried to merge the lounge threads.

Well, after a brief civil war, a group who alerts readers to videos of advanced ironing techniques without fear of retribution would probably prevail over groups perseverating about less important topics such as airlines' policies.

Will any of you nutbags be hanging out at EWR next Thursday afternoon (May 6)? I have a couple hours in the late afternoon there before my flight to LHR.

I guess that is part of the issue, for me at least. The whole idea of the Box is a place where none of that stuff goes on, and everyone is welcome, and it's all . The Box is an Internet enigma; it is a rare thing indeed for a group of people as varied in all the demographics you could think of as we are to not only get along well for an extended period of time, but to also form real friendships outside of the Internet where we spend significant resources in meeting up with one another as frequently as is possible.

I've been involved in lots of online communities over the years and this one is, by far, the most stable and thereby the most fun of any of them. I would not enjoy an environment where we had to compete for something that doesn't really matter in reality.

Thanks, folks. I've met some of the kindest, smartest, and most hilarious people via the Box, and I'm glad the tradition can continue. ^

ALCO and several others were discussing the other day the possibility of the Box existing in the UA forum where, as I understand it, the mods don't allow lounge threads. I hope a deal can be struck.

Wonder which will be the tougher task: Merging the corporate cultures of CO and UA or merging the cultures of teh Box and the UA forum?

:D

The page views and ad impressions for a thread this size are too large to ignore, and no one during the previous Box survival conjecture brought up this particular nugget: :-:Randy likes us.:-: In my world, that's called a bargaining chip.

While those things are true, the downside is that I would imagine this thread is quite the strain on the database servers. Unless IB has done some serious custom maintenance to the forum software, vBulletin is known for its issues in supporting extremely large threads. Most other forums cap replies at 100,000 for that reason, but who knows. Most of the time FT is fairly responsive, even in the Box.

But yeah, I'm glad Randy likes us. And it's probably due to my earlier points about having succeeding in not degenerating into something at even OMNI would look at and say, "No way."

A couple of plants I've worked with have machines like these (although not sorting beef jerky sticks). It's pretty cool to watch them in person, having 12 pickers loading 1000+ units/minute. The vision systems on the robot system can account for random orientation of the product, and can measure dimensions to reject improperly sized items.

Cool.

I think tonight is unhealthy food night. Sausage with onions and peppers.

Off to Home Depot.

Nice, it looks like Marriott has rolled out the free Internet access at full service properties for golds and plats to include all of the US and Canada (now including Hawaii) as well as Central and South America. ^

I'm afraid teh Box would become a -fest over there. I don't think it would have the same sense of community.:(

Pointless to speculate of course, and while the merger arbitrage (and all the press) seems to indicate UAUA will be the survivor, and the UA brand is probably better globally, I still have a hard time believing that the CAL board would give it all away for just about share for share.

I'm having a Michelob Ultra. I'm trying to limit my carb intake while I'm waiting for my french fries to bake.:o:D
