When do you have time to make money on your photos?

Not too often, which is why I haven't bought it yet. I got an offer to shoot a wedding for a friend of my brother-in-law's sister (just a shoot and burn job - no albums), but it's in the back half of June. Given my wife's due in early July, I don't want to assume the risk that that particular Saturday won't involve early labor.

The D300 plus a little bit of other stuff was bought by my father in exchange for shooting my sister's wedding last summer, so I technically made $1500 or so for that.

Well this sucks.... I have a choice to take the hotel shuttle two and from the airport and arrive 1.5 hours before flight or drive myself to the airport and spend $22. Guess I will be getting up at 4 am!! YEAH!! I need to get to bed then!! :)

Me and my cheap Pentax. I love my 70-300 lense. Very clear photos. Now for my 18-50 lenses. Both have issues. The default one has a soft focus and the more expensive one has some focus issues on the right side of the frame when I have a fast lenses opening. Rather annoying.

I would like a new flash but they are expensive. I have to tape my current on in the vertical position. Of course it does a full discharge configured like that so it takes a bit to recharge. I don't use it enough to justify a new one.

I played with a D300 when I was in the Mall of America. The killer for me was that it wasn't 1080 video. I don't shoot enough nor do I get paid to shoot, so my want for high-end gear is more like an investment for me. I like to shoot certain stuff, but I'm more than anything looking at it as the camera system that will capture my kids growing up.

That was the updated version - the D300s. Video on an SLR would be pretty cool, but for what I'd anticipate using, I think that a decent pocket-able video camera would be more likely to get use.

Even though I've got the DSLR, I still have a little pocket P&S for some occasions, and I'm thinking I'll get a flash memory-based video camera soon...something like the Kodak Zi8.

I've shot a few take-offs and landings with my DSLR since I got the new one. It is annoying that the focus is fixed once I start shooting, unlike an actual video camera that adjusts as you zoom. Plus, zooming smoothly is very difficult with the barrel twist. I'd rather a flipHD or the like, I think.

I'm looking to get a Panasonic Lumix ZS or ZR series camera. They allow zoom when in video mode which is unusual for p&s in video mode.

I've traveled with both a P&S and DSLR and used them at the same time. Saved me from doing a lense change a few times.

There are DSLRs that autofocus on zoom and pan.

A Lumix is my P&S. I got my wife one as well (ZS-3, I think).

Pentax K-x.

There are a few that support it, but it isn't mainstream yet. Most don't.

I'm looking at the ZR-1, ZR-3 (ZR-1 replacement), and the ZS-5 (ZS-3 replacement) ZR series are smaller but have 8x instead of 12x optical zoom. The ZR-1 can be about $70 less than either of the others but it does have jpeg 720p which is a memory hog compared to the newer Panasonic/Sony file system. (not HDV, Pan not part of that)

My father just got a ZS-7 in the last few weeks. He's been pretty happy with it so far.
