I forgot something.

In Internet Explorer, can the homepage field (Internet Options) have a redirection in it? I'm still at my mother's house and I'm using her laptop. For a goof, I changed the homepage to Welcome to Internet. :D Is it possible to write a redirection in that text box?

Regarding the *other* merger that's scheduled to happen... I know some of you have mixed feelings about it, and I've been known to exhibit UA-apologist qualities with the best of 'em... but I promise we 1Ks aren't ALL entitled... and almost none of us bites :) We just really like our E+, CR-1s, and three-class planes... but I'm sure something we can all hope for is that StarNet blocking goes the way of Ted. (rar!)

Don't worry...you're not the only 1K in here. Welcome to the club. It's a much more fun place than the UA forum.

And they're right - you do have to read it from the beginning! :D

Anyone planning on going to the World Expo in Shanghai? I'm thinking about going there in October.

HAHA! Honestly, I think the main issue is that the same question keeps getting asked over and over again by FT newbies who don't bother to use the "search" function - and I think, for whatever reason, that happens more in the UA forum than in most others, probably due to the historic complexity of MP, etc. (e500s, CR-1s, and SWUS are [were] more elite upgrade instruments than any other airline - and I'm not even counting miles; free standby even for GMs [until last month] was unique to UA; and UA has a tendency to vacillate wildly between throwing out comp like candy [I once got $200 for being on a canceled flight - but I'd SDC'ed before the flight was even canceled so I wasn't affected at all] and totally ignoring/refusing pax complaints [c.f. united breaks guitars], which causes much confusion and consternation). Also, it doesn't help that some (one or two, really) of our most frequent posters (without naming names) have a tendency to post often-useless, uniformly-sarcastic/sardonic replies which rapidly (negatively) affects the tone of threads.

We do have some good people over there - goalie, for one, is a truly great guy. And our mods are not that great.

Fixed.

It is hard for me to consider the NW 43rd street area "swanky" but I get what you mean. There has actually been a decent amount of revitalization in downtown but it still has its more seedy bits. To get out to the NW 43rd area figure on more like 1:45-2:00 driving from JAX. There are three distinct speed traps along the road - all very well marked - and you will get a ticket if you are speeding. If you fly in to GNV you basically just drive due west out of the airport and then turn left at 43rd street. It would be impressive if you managed to get lost.

As MBM3 said yesterday, we really need to take a high road. So I'm going to encourage everyone not to bash on the UA folks or their program. The reality is that none of us know what is coming or will happen and both sides can be just as surprised.

We have our own set of self-entitled folk, not anyone in the box, but both sides of crazies and normal folks.

Huh? Which text box? The IE one? And what type of redirection are you writing? This makes no sense at all.

I tend to refer to it as "slice remover".

In the field at the top of the General tab of Internet Properties that contains the address of the page that is loaded at launch. I want her browser to trumpet and welcome her to the Internet, pause, and then take her to her normal start page.

You'd have to put all the Welcome to Internet stuff on your own page, then redirect her. No way to do that externally, and certainly not from within that text box in the IE options. I could probably make a local copy of it for you.

Meh, it was worth a shot. Thanks. I can't hang around here anymore, but thanks for the offer. Cat hair is getting to me and I'm supposed to go to bed early to go flying tomorrow.

The angry phone call will still be worth it.

WWBD

I need help with some FT math.

I have 135,XXX HHonors points. To finish MLE hotel bookings, I need three more nights either through free night certs or points. The Conrad is 50,000/night or has a point stretcher deal of 4 nights for 170,000.

If I get the HHonors AmEx Surpass card, I can close out my MLE hotels and redposit one of my free night chits to use in Paris, DXB, or SIN. That card has a $75 annual fee (not a big deal), but the dumbed down HHonors affinity card is free and has 20,000 points attached to it, which would bring me to the needed threshold for the three remaining nights (but won't maximize the usage of said points).

Other variables
: I need three more nights to hit Diamond, which I'm absolutely going to do before the honeymoon for the benefits (so the Gold that comes with the AmEx fee card is worthless). One more stay beyond those three and I get another free night. So I'm banking on at least 10,000 more points, plus another free night, from stays between now and the end of May when I'd like to have the entire honeymoon buttoned up.

I carry the SPG AmEx card which is kind of 'ing me with the amount I've been staying at Hilton's recently. I'm not one to carry loads of cards in my wallet. I have the PPlus () and SPG AmEx and these two cover my needs. I'm not interested in ditching the SPG card because it's a far superior program and card to Hilton.

I also hate churning cards as a matter of practice, so if I end up going the AmEx Hilton route I'll probably hold onto it for a few years. Despite my better judgment.

Thoughts?

I'm thinking about it. B fares on CO to PVG are still somewhat expensive on CO though. I started reading through some of the FT threads on the China visa. Apparently getting your multi-entry visa through the Houston consulate will be best.
