FAQ

1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT you’ll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- it’s from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.

2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business

While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.

3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please don’t call Citi for the passes, because you’ll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.

4. Can I apply for a business card if I don’t have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.

5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, you’ll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what won’t, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)

6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)

7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
There’s a very good chance that it’ll be coded as a cash advance.
It’s recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)

8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
  • Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
It does not apply if you hold only the Citi Gold World MasterCard.

Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.

9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

I have a few questions..approved for Visa (and received it), approved for AMEX. No 2 browser trick or anything, just regular back to back applications (though I had to send old CC bill since I recently moved).

1) My credit line for the AMEX is much higher than my VISA. I know it's an AMEX, but it's still "through" Citi, right? So could I request some of it moved to my Visa?

2) I bought a flight recently with the Visa. I bought my ticket, and then my GF's ticket. Not the same reservation, I bought them separately (saved me $50 somehow). My ticket was Priority AAccess and I enjoyed it very much. Is PriorityAAcess what I get as "priority boarding"? I thought it was *just* the boarding, but I also got to get a shorter security and check in lines! Loved it.

2a) With that, I used my AA Visa to buy my GF's ticket (separate reservation, code, etc) and she had "Zone 2" boarding. Is zone 2 the "priority boarding" without the security/check in line benefits? If I had included her on my reservation, would she have also gotten PriorityAAccess? (not that it mattered, since she was with me people let her come along).
2b) If zone 2 is what "priority boarding" really is, how come I was able to get Priority AAcess? I mean, I loved having it, but I have no status or anything and was confused why I was able to skip other lines as well.

I had the opposite discrepancy regarding my limits. AA Visa gave me several thousand dollars more than AA AMEX.

What status do you have with AA? Quite often I travel with my wife (no AA status) and my BP shows PLT/Priority Access & her BP shows Group 2/3/4(whatever). The gate agents (GA) will let her board with me since I am Plat.

I would call AA and have them link both reservations together to reflect your higher status. On occasion, I will use miles for my wife's ticket and I will buy a revenue ticket. I have successfully been able to call AA and link the two tickets together so she can board with me.

Bottom line: YMMV (your mileage may vary) when making requests like the above.

Citi doesn't tend to allow credit line movements like this but you can try. Just make sure they don't decide to pull your credit report again and think of it as a straight credit limit increase.

As for the remainder of your questions, they belong in this very detailed thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...-benefits.html

In summary, the answers are:
2) It's possible buying the tickets separately priced one in a lower fare bucket, thus $50 less. It's a known glitch that the primary cardholder can get the full "Priority AAccess" rather than just boarding. Eventually they may fix it but enjoy it for now.

2a) http://www.aa.com/i18n/urls/boarding.jsp Zone 2 is a regular boarding zone, which is correct - she only gets boarding privileges if she's on the same reservation as you. For boarding and baggage, it's you plus up to four people, all on the same reservation.

2b) You're supposed to get Zone 1 but, for now, the pass is endorsed "Priority AAccess" and will generally be accepted at security. Think of it as an unofficial perk.

It is pointed out in this thread by reference. A reference to dozens of lines of important information everyone should read and understand before applying for these cards or asking questions which are already clearly answered. And the reference is only one sentence that apparently people don't bother to read.

Seriously, if people are applying for credit cards without bothering to even read through a couple of links with step-by-step information that helps them to understand what they are applying for and how to maximize their applications then perhaps this is not the right option for them.

I just applied for the Citi Business Visa and sadly did not get an instant approval, but its pending. What should I do now? What are you supposed to say on the reconsideration line and when should I call? Thanks, this was a bit of a wrench thrown in the churn process...

Sometimes they want to verify the business. They will tell you if they want you to fax anything. A utility bill with the name and address of the business that matches what you put on the application is usually good enough, though some posters report being unable to get the card no matter what they send in. As usual with Citi, it's a big YMMV.

The same thing happened to me when I applied two weeks ago. I called in to check on the application status after a few days as the link they sent me via email kept telling me that it was pending. They just asked me to verify a few basic things (name, business name/address, etc.) then put me on hold and told me I was approved. I wasn't expecting it to be that easy.

Just hit my $3K spend on both the personal Visa and AMEX cards this last week. Will be nice to see those 100K bonus miles show up in my account soon! Now to work on triggering the "$100 statement credit" after first AA purchase. As I'm not planning to actually take a domestic mainline flight anytime in the next few months on AA, I suppose I'll just purchase the smallest gift card possible on each credit card.

Thanks to those who have provided such great detailed information in this thread on the whole process!

Their problems, not yours nor mine, except their questions clogging up this thread. I choose to ignore those repetitive questions now. If they dont get spoon-fed, may be they would finally start to read.

Second that!
"wiki post" is feature I'm also missing very much!
Especially for such a big thread with thousands of posts!
