FAQ
1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT you’ll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- it’s from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.
2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business
While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.
3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please don’t call Citi for the passes, because you’ll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.
4. Can I apply for a business card if I don’t have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.
5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, you’ll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what won’t, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)
6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)
7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
There’s a very good chance that it’ll be coded as a cash advance.
It’s recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)
8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.
9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

Variation on the Two-Browser Trick - Experience?
I applied for both Citi cards for my wife. Both got approved. I had myself as an additional on one account and not the other.
In the mail yesterday we got - three Visa cards for two separate accounts.
Apparently I must have clicked on the wrong link and applied for two Visa's.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I actually don't give a darn, it's actually easier to meet the spend on a Visa since I can pay my rent with it. I'm guessing nothing on their side will be sophisticated enough to not give the double bonus, and it might just look to them like she got one card for herself and another account in her name but that I will be the main one using.

Note 2: It had been just over 18 mo since my previous Personal Citi card -- or so I thought. However in Apr '10 someone made unauthorized charges on my personal card. I immediately caught it and brought it to Citi's attention. They closed the card and sent me a new one with a different account number. I didn't realize that this would restart the 18 Month clock between personal cards. However it did and I was rejected as " not a 1st time user".
Live and learn.
wow, this sucks!! I was issued a new card a year ago because I lost my card. I was planning on doing the 2 browser trick next month. But now I have to wait until it's 18 months from the day I was issued the replacement card ? can anybody else confirm this.
thanks

I think it's just as likely that person's individual clock was 20+ months, rather than 18. 18 is not a rule. Plenty of people here have 20 or 24 month clocks.

Resetting the 18 mo clock for personal cards
I doubt there was any restarting of the clock with the issuance of a replacement card. The key here is that there isn't a set "18 month clock", it's more of an 18-24 month clock with outliers possible. I suspect that if Happyfeet applied again in 6 months they would be approved. The key here is that nothing is guaranteed and we have seen a wide range of elapsed time periods for both approvals and denials. It is truly a case of YMMV
then I was disapproved at 20 Mo & 3 Da and approved at 25 Mo 24 Da.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If the personal card clock was reset by activating the replacement card
then I was disapproved at 12 Mo & 26 Da and approved at 18 Mo 18 Da.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW my wife was Instant Approved for 2 per cards on 25 Aug '11 after waiting 21 Mo & 25 Da.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree I shouldn't have worded my assumption so strongly since I might be wrong.
So who knows --- however, I think 18 Mo was pretty common in 2011.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So --- Does anyone else have a similiar experience that would confirm or deny
That activating a replacement card restarts the 18 to 24 Mo clock?

However, some have been approved at 18 months and a select (lucky) few are approved months earlier than that.

Just a heads-up. I checked the links today and noticed that the personal cards previously listed under #4 are no longer working and have been reomoved. All other links in the first post are working as of today.

Thanks for the update . . . even though it is BAD news. Only one set of Personal cards left. Guess I need to apply sooner rather than later. My wife and I are at a little under 17 months and I was thinking of hitting these on our churn in early October. We are at 70 days since last Citi App(s) but they gave me a hard time on the HHonors cards so I am not sure if I should risk these yet. Sigh, decisions, decisions!

Multiple calls have been made and Citi Rep told me very clearly on phone that they saw an existing Citi AA card on my credit report, and it is NOT the Citi AMEX, which is very unlikely since I am pretty sure that I have closed the old Visa. I am still waiting for the letter from Citi for the exact reason on rejection. I guess that I need to get a copy of credit report and then appeal with the credit report agency if there is an error that the card is still on the report.
What makes you think it's the old Visa that's the problem, rather than the new Amex?

Maybe the rejection letter will be more enlightening. Sometimes the worst happens and there's no successful way to fight it. There isn't much you can do given how glitchy everything at Citi is.

Citi is flakey on the "first time only" limiter. I think in the last couple pages of this thread posters have reported wait periods of between 12 and 25 months to get past the first time only denial.
Hopefully you are not on a special list that stops you for longer than that.
