FAQ

1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT you’ll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- it’s from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.

2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business

While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.

3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please don’t call Citi for the passes, because you’ll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.

4. Can I apply for a business card if I don’t have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.

5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, you’ll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what won’t, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)

6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)

7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
There’s a very good chance that it’ll be coded as a cash advance.
It’s recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)

8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
  • Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
It does not apply if you hold only the Citi Gold World MasterCard.

Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.

9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

I think it's just as likely that person's individual clock was 20+ months, rather than 18. 18 is not a rule. Plenty of people here have 20 or 24 month clocks.
Thanks for the info. it's been 24 months since I got my AA card, I'm applying next month for the set of 2, hopefully that replacement card won't be an issue.

I Hope you are Approved! I think that if you are then there's a 90% chance that getting a replacement card made no difference and DID NOT reset the 18 - 24 Mo clock. If you are disapproved as a previous card holder then I think there's a 90% chance that the replacement card DID reset the clock. I think that will answer my question asking if anyone else has evidence on this issue. So be sure and report back.

Whatever the outcome, "May the odds be forever in your favor"

I've never churned AA business cards before. Hoping for a clarification.

I just cancelled my Citi biz (MC) yesterday that I opened in 2009. I'd like to apply for the new Visa biz card. I hear waiting 90 days is a good idea? Do you feel this still applies given I'm moving from MC to Visa, and have never had the Visa before?

It makes no difference when/if you cancelled the old account. You NEED to wait 90 days between Business Card applications. If you have not applied for a Business card in the last 90 days and you have not applied for more than 2 Citi cards of any variety in the last 60 days, you should be good to go.

This could be a dumb question...but is the purchase protection and other similar benefits under the control of Citi or American Express (for the Amex version)?

Maybe these questions have been answered before but I could not find clear answers after browsing dozens pages:
1) Do I have to cancel my old Citi AA Personal cards (>2 yr old) before apply for new ones?
2) If yes, is there a waiting time frame for next application?
Posts in this page indicates AA biz card application is not affected by existing one(s), for personal card whether this is still the case?

re

Replacement cards have no bearing on apps....as a matter of fact I think my application for the personal amex and MC triggered them to send me a replacement card for the visa that I hadnt used in a long time, when they mentioned it on the phone while activating my other cards I said I didnt even know if I still had it, and that it was from before the cards had free bag perks so I wouldnt be using it anyway....out of the blue I get a replacement visa to go with my new MC and AMEX...I cancel the visa and 2 months later I get a bill for the annual fee (seems they never cancelled it) I had to call back pissed and get confirmation it was cancelled the second try.

My wife still had a visa (from 2010 75k signup) and applied for another visa and amex....we recently moved and they couldnt verify some info on her app (even though my apps were approved with our new address, with no problem) so I had to write letters, submit enough information to get a mortgage, and prove her identity, address, and income....they still denied her....I refused to give up, and after writing to the executive reconsideration department and getting a actual thinking person to look at her documentation they agreed to reconsider, but would have to run another credit check because this whole process took over 30 days and they needed a fresh look...a few days later she was finally approved.
during the reconsideration process they sent her a replacement for her old visa, we cancelled it with no problems.

Citi is so bassackwards...they approve me no questions asked (and I'm currently unemployed) and put her under the microscope. She was recently transferred to DFW and got a big raise with a company she has been with 20+ years, we bought a new house, sold our old one, have no debt, and all 3 of her FICO scores are 800+
If we didnt live in an AA hub city, I wouldn't deal with Citi's retarded company at all.

Citi AA Companion Cert - Any way to extend?

My GF applied for and was approved for the Citi AA card with the companion certification. However, her cert has an expiration date at end of November. Any way to call Citi/AA and have this extended? She's in Italy for work for 5 months and can't use it while she's gone. Any chance here?

Anyone get more than 10k back in a year (in one account) due to having more than one AA Citicard?

I believe this is tied to your account at American Airline so very unlikely unless you have multiple AA accounts.

It does not make any difference for ANY Citi card whether or not you close a previous card of any kind. All that matters is time between applications.
