FAQ

1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT you’ll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- it’s from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.

2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business

While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.

3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please don’t call Citi for the passes, because you’ll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.

4. Can I apply for a business card if I don’t have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.

5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, you’ll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what won’t, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)

6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)

7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
There’s a very good chance that it’ll be coded as a cash advance.
It’s recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)

8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
  • Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
It does not apply if you hold only the Citi Gold World MasterCard.

Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.

9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

How often do these type of deal come up? I assume this is a good one and might not come up that often right?
This came after the 75K and 100K ones a year or two ago. The 75K were $1500 or $4000 spend, the 100K were 50K for X ($1000?) and another 50K at $10,000. Those lasted about 18-24 months. But then, last year was a momentous year for big bonuses. The big draw on these is getting two cards for one credit pull and getting 100K miles, enough to fly Business Class to Europe and back. Not too shabby.

These offers have been around for a year or so. Who knows what the future holds? However, the earlier you get these the sooner you can get them again. My wife and I got in on the 75K cards in April last year and will try again for these on our next churn in a couple of months around the 18 month mark.

Hello and thanks for your data point. I'm planning to apply to the Citi AA business (got the 2 personals in May) in the next couple of days and was wondering if Citi required any documentation when you called in? what questions did they ask? what did you put on the form for EIN and type of company?

I ask because of concern reading recent posts that Citi has been tougher on verifying businesses.

Thanks!

Got a pre-approved offer in the mail for the Visa Signature: 35,000 AA miles after $1,500 spend in the first 3 months. Not much better than the 30,000 AA miles after $1,000 spend in the first 3 months public offer.

And yet much worse than the 50k offer here...?

True, but in my experience, pre-approved offers from Citi don't require a hard check when you accept them (same with Chase if you're already a cardholder), so I might accept the offer and save a hard inquiry for another card.

IME, that's wrong on both counts. I believe you still get the hard inquiry if you respond to a "pre-approved" offer, and you definitely don't get a pass on a hard pull because you have another card with the bank.

Correct. "Pre-approved" means only that you met some marketing criteria for solicitation. It's a classic misnomer.

As others have noted, a misconception. Plus, follow the procedure mentioned in the first post in this thread (which links to a post in another thread about a similar offer on this card), and you get 100K for one pull.

Of course, to paraphrase one of the Capital One commercials, "almost everyone" wants more points. . .

I just applied for both Personal citi cards and received them in the mail today. unfortunately i flew on american this past weekend but don't have any plans to fly on them this next 12 months. what is the best way to get the statement credits for each card? I've read through a lot of this thread and it seems like some people are having success with purchasing a gift card on aa.com. can anyone confirm this method as working? anything else i should know? seems like my only option unless i get on a flight. thanks

I tried to do the 2 browser app for this and I accidentally put in 2 applications for the Amex, both were approved for identical credit lines, I then applied for the Visa and got the step 3 message. When I called in they told me they saw 3 applications, the visa was denied for too many cards but they said that both Amex cards were approved with the same credit. Has this happened to anyone where they got 2 of the same cards from citi? Should I get the bonuses on both of the cards? Thanks for any insight.

Yes, this happened several times last year, mostly by accident. If you put in an application and get an error and then retry, sometimes you will get two of the same card. A couple/few people who tried it intentionally had problems though.

Appd and got approved for about 7 credit cards in the past week. Did the Citi 2-browser trick and both apps went to online chat, so I was chatting with two different reps and my apps were sent in for review. Hope at least one is approved!

Hi, I am preparing to get the personal VISA and AMEX with the 2-browser trick. I currently have a "Citi® Dividend American Express® Card" with a 25k credit line.

Does it help with instant approval if I cancel this card before I apply for the 2 cards?
If I have to talk/chat to reconsideration line, do they move credit from the existing card to the new card(s)?

Thanks!
