Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833

Note posts before 1-832 are typically the April 2017 menu. 833 and above is from the menu for May 2017.

I really more concerned about the LCA-LHR leg...
It's the same kitchen (over the road from the Hilton Garden Inn in Heathrow) that prepares the meals in both directions, CE meals are not locally prepared in Cyprus. So what you see upthread is what you will get.

EDIT: the actual menu should be this one assuming you are travelling in March:

“Fish or chicken, sir?”

”I believe I’ve ordered a vegetarian meal.”

”I think the fish is the vegetarian meal, sir.”

Sigh.......

Does LCA-LHR have the same offerings as SOF-LHR?
Isn't LCA-LHR a much longer route?

Wow

I’d have been an unhappy chap on that flight. Inappropriate food, I don’t drink hot drinks and like my cold drinks cold ... and if I did drink hot drinks no milk to put in the tea or coffee.

LCA and SOF are both Long flights, SOF is towards the beginning of the band, and LCA is at the other end of it, but in a given month on a given rotation will have the same food offering. Having a look at the first few posts in this thread to see how this works.

I tried something different today on my EDI-LHR flight. I went for 'low-fat' rather than 'low-calorie' and got this mezze plate! It was OK - not sure the humous is that low in fat but I guess it is 'good fats'!

As an aside the prawn thing was being describe as prawn tapas rather than a prawn salad!

Low-Fat Short Haul
Thanks for posting, I’ve never seen that dish before. I agree with you, I’m not convinced that’s a ‘low fat’ option though

I agree with others - looks nice but not low fat - that said, that confirms my theory that BA typically has about two SPML loaded per meal/band: KSML and everything else! I think that low fat, low calorie, Muslim, low cholesterol, Vegetarian, Asian vegetarian etc are all but one and the same. In that case, this looks like one of the better iterations!

BA675 IST-LHR. An exception to the rule

I have finally figured out the inbound BA675 and its an anomaly for sure.
BA675 IST-LHR scheduled departure: 10:00; scheduled arrival: 11:20
Note, the aircraft used to operate the morning BA675 arrives into IST the night before as BA680
Now, IST is a long catering band so going by the flight departure time, on the BA675 one would expect a starter, cheese plate, and dessert plate, with a choice of two main hots. So following the current rotation (A), in February 2018 you'd expect to receive the choice of:

Meal 5: Chicken khao soi, or Meal 6: Hot smoked salmon linguine

Right? Well not quite. Instead the BA675 gets a small 80mg Yeo Valley yoghurt pot, and for the hot dish, the choice of
- Apple veal sausage with traditional breakfast accompaniments (scrambled egg, potatoes, grilled tomato half, and mushrooms), or
- Ricotta and spinach omelette with sautéed king oyster mushrooms and Glamorgan patty (pictured below)

BA675 breakfast served this morning at 11:40am IST time - that's the meal in full

Why is this happening? Well, the answer can be found in the Chef's Chat Sheet that corporate-wage-slave kindly posted in May last year.

In the sheet, sub-titled "HC HOT BREAKFAST - NIGHTSTOP INBOUND, ALL BANDS" the meals loaded on the BA675 match this description to the letter. So it would appear that this menu is loaded for all night stopped inbounds, irrespective of band and also irrespective of the flight departure time. I think its bizarre that an inbound IST-LHR gets the same menu as the first CDG-LHR of the day, but there you go - that seems to be the way it works.

What is more bizarre is that the SPML component (when requested 24 hours+ in advance) is aligned to the regular Long flight band and timing with no night stop override in place which explains December's bewhildering VGML curry with a breakfast set up.

LHR - CPH BA816 19 Feb. CE

Chicken Salad, medium distance lunch meal. (other choice was panini) Chicken was definite preference in cabin.

Tasted quite good, as others have commented, quantity was smaller than maybe in the past but quality was good. I enjoyed it and as a light lunch it was enough for me. (i don't tend to eat lunches but only had a very light breakfast so this was a nice way to carry me over until the evening meal).

Safe travels.

Where have to out of Africa nuts gone, replaced by these rather bland dried almonds.

Tonight’s BA1338 (not pictured) was more of a choice on how do you want your chicken, in salad or panini form, much to the amusement of the crew and passengers who all seemed to see the funny side of it.
In a separate tagline today’s BA779 ARN-LHR crew, in particular the CSD were excellent, it made me feel like I was on a BA flight in the good old days, Chicken Tikka was pretty good too.

BCN-LGW medium band dinner. Chicken breast with pasta salad (and dressing sachet!) and dessert pot. This was quite tasty and more substantial than some of the LHR offerings of late (halved prawns, anyone?). I'd actually ordered the Kosher special meal as I wanted to try it for a change, but for reasons the excellent crew couldn't fathom, it was't loaded.
