Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.
This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.
Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833
-------------------------
Note posts before 1-832 are typically the April 2017 menu. 833 and above is from the menu for May 2017.

All catering on shorthaul is ex-London. There are now no catering contracts in Europe, everything is loaded in London. Breakfasts are loaded in insulated boxes and stored on the aircraft overnight. We then have the joys of the 'build a breakfast' putting the yogurts and butter on the trays and loading the hots into the ovens. Always fun when trying to board passengers at the same time!

KSML (kosher) lunch short medium CE
I don't usually take photos but thought this would be helpful. Kosher (KSML) lunch on OSL-LHR. Less than before but still far more substantial and much better than regular CE. Three thick slices of beetroot cured salmon, two golf balls of smoked whitefish pate with fresh yellow and red peppers, all on a large bed of shredded lettuce, cabbage and carrot which were not only fresh but unlike normal CE salads actually dressed! Nice small challah bread (with margarine but crew gave me butter upon request). Dessert was a large chocolate mousse (which I did not find very good but I know others love). Tray also includes a peach tea, nescafe etc. Qualitatively, this was all really nice (except the mousse in my view, but that's a question of taste and you could see a lot of care and effort had gone into it) and a clear notch above regular CE catering on that front too and not just quantity. The salmon was better than the one I have had on BA F, which I already find really good.
Across the row, the young lady with the tiny prawn salad asked the SCCM if she could have the same as me and sounded pretty gutted when answered that no and that this was a special meal. I'll continue ordering this on short/medium flights despite absolutely not keeping kosher till BA find it within their capacity to serve decent sized meals. The flight time was 2h10, block time was 2h30, and quite frankly, the normal offering was, as always for medium, nothing short of pathetic.

Am I right in thinking the three-prawn-plus-lemon would be the lunch meal on a LHR-MAD run? Is there a non-fish alternative - and if so, what? If not, does anyone know what the current special offerings are?

Yes, the alternative is the warm panino or half-panino depending on how lucky/unlucky you are. And yes that's lunch or dinner - afternoon tea is even worse!!

Unfortunately, my understanding is that for afternoon tea, you get sandwiches, so I think I'd probably try Gluten free for afternoon tea flights.

So hard to escape from sandwiches...thanks. Sorry for another question, but do you know if the KSML from LCY is different? I don't mind the salads on brunch/lunch medium routes from LCY, but I've had the same ones over and over recently (and do find the current inclusion of a chilli/lime dressing rather incongruous with the salads provided), so some variety would be welcome.

Unfortunately no idea about LCY. You’re right that the menus don’t change enough but I fly it less and find the menus better (heck, even the Y lunch on the NCE route is more substantial than the CE lunch/dinner option on LHR andLGW on the same route!) so I’ve never tried any of the spml from/to LCY so far.
and yes those sandwiches are really nasty but I dislike sandwiches in general so prefer to try gluten free at that time to hopefully get the vegan sushi or even a fruit plate.

Good morning everyone and greetings from Helsinki! Had a great flight in Club yesterday over from London on the 794. 6 rows of Club and a very good, proactive and attentive crew took good care of us with regular top ups. Was travelling with my parents and the enjoyed Club very much. It was their first ever flight in Business Class ever.
The meals were really good and filling. The only downside was that it took quite a while for the food to be served. The starters were served east of Denmark and the main course over eastern Sweden, so more than halfway through the flight.
Anyway, well done BA!

Ploughman’s Afternoon Tea
I swapped onto an earlier than normal flight from LHR to EDI yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the ploughman’s lunch plate I received for afternoon tea. It was delicious! I would much rather have this than the panini later on.
Regards
