2015 POUG rate tracker
Please add your own successful results to the follow list including the month/year when the POUG was offered to you.
POUGs are offered via BA.com and the App Manage My Booking via a distinctive banner. You cannot get a POUG by telephoning, however the service centres can complete a POUG which falls over mid transaction. They are offered on cash and Avios redemptions but typically not on complex routings, BA Holidays or travel agency bookings until OLCI stage. POUGs on Avios redemptions won't get you additional TPs/Avios, but they will on revenue tickets.

Short haul routes from LON to/from Europe
A price in pounds indicates a ticket issued from London, other currencies indicate prices for tickets issued overseas (e.g. singles or returns originating from CDG priced in Euros). Multiple prices indicate a range of fares are on offer. Note that LCY prices currently seem to be on a different basis to LGW and LHR (cheaper, in other words).

LCY does not yet seem to be as affected by the POUG increases as LHR/LGW, I've had a few offered recently at this price. SH offers to/from LHR have been mostly £120-130, with the exception of one GOT-LHR at the SEK equivalent of £89.

It does seem to be a general trend - and LCY anecdotally has improved catering compared to its cousins at LGW and LHR.

Just a quick question: I'm flying LCY-MAD (return) next friday over the weekend and being offered to upgrade to Business for 79£.

1.) Would this upgrade both the inbound and the outbound flight for 79£ in total?
2.) Do I get avios and TP for this upgrade?

Best,
Stair Way

1. That is a one way upgrade, so it covers only one leg. It should be clear in MMB which leg it refers to.

2. Yes, you will get Avios and the extra TPs for the upgrade, unless your original fare was a redemption booking.

1) No, it would be £79 per leg, provided that you have actually been offered a POUG on both.
2) You do if your original ticket is a cash ticket (i.e. not a reward flight).

IMO, LCY route food certainly better than LGW/LHR in ET, it's a toss-up in CE depending on time of day.

I guess it's just a website limitation, but I do smile when the LCY POUG offer comes up, offering me lounge access and fast track security...I suppose you do get it at the outstation for the return.

Thanks for your quick reply! Any idea where I can see how many extra avios/TP I would get? Trying to reach the next tier before my year expires...

One other small point and it will depend how busy immigration is, but you'd also be off the aircraft before the WT pax, so a few less people in front of you at US immigration.

[Edit - you'd also get 2 pieces of checked baggage, in both directions even if you only upgraded one way]

As you can see from posts above, these days people are regularly being offered £120-130 for much shorter journeys in CE, so in those terms it is relatively good value, but you should think of the absolute value you'd get from spending the money.
OAXACA - Thanks will discuss with my husband before I decide as he doesn't understand the true value invovled!!!

A couple of deciding points, we are BAEC Silver, so I f we took up the offer do you think we would get a bump up to CW, and do you know if this aircraft has the new WTP Or the old version? Are the extra tier points worth £180?

Once again thanks.

You'd get 40 TPs per upgraded leg.

You can check how many Avios you'll get (and TPs too) using the Avios calculator in the Executive Club section of ba.com.

If you are Silver there is a chance of an op-up to CW if they need to do it on that flight, though these are unpredictable. You'd generally have a better chance than blue or non-status pax, though sometimes single travellers are favoured (and I don't know all BA's deciding factors for who gets op-ups). Make sure you check in online, supposedly that improves chances.

The aircraft is likely to be a 772, so maybe/maybe not on new WTP, they are working through them. Don't know if the LGW aircraft are lower priority than LHR for this, but it wouldn't surprise me.

You will get 55 extra TP for this (assuming your original ticket was not an Avios redemption, in which case you don't), it's 90TP instead of 35. That's £3.27 per extra TP, but the value depends on how much you need those TPs to retain Silver or get Gold, versus how much they would cost you to get another way. TPs can be a factor, but (IMO) you are getting more for your money than just TPs with WT>WTP, unlike ET>CE.

Just to point out if Stair Way is new to this, that it's 40TP total, not 40 on top of the 10 s/he already will earn.

The TP calculator is here:

Can anyone share his or her experience on the benefits of flying business class on short haul trips from London City? I am a bit hesitant to upgrade my flight as LCY has no lounge, fast track is unnecessary in LCY aswell and I am not sure if the breakfast (I have an early flight to Madrid) is really that much better in Business compared to Economy? Also, there seems to be no difference between the business class and economy seats on the Embraer E-190 or am I wrong? There is usually also ample legroom in economy on this aircraft aswell.

Am I totally wrong or does it really not make sense to pay for a business class upgrade on this particular flight?

Best,
Stair Way

You are correct, on the Embraer fleet, all the seats are the same, used interchangeably between Domestic (all economy) and European (CE and ET). All that differs is the service, so is a cooked breakfast and 30 additional Tier Points worth the price difference to you?! Personally I'd seek out food in Madrid!!

PS Seat pitch throughout the E-190 is far better than the airbus fleet. I always choose row 12 if domestic or European Traveller.

£160 upgrade offered (and declined) LHR to LIN for a flight tomorrow.

This was on a fully flex economy ticket as well! Was expecting the normal £79.
