2015 POUG rate tracker
Please add your own successful results to the follow list including the month/year when the POUG was offered to you.
POUGs are offered via BA.com and the App Manage My Booking via a distinctive banner. You cannot get a POUG by telephoning, however the service centres can complete a POUG which falls over mid transaction. They are offered on cash and Avios redemptions but typically not on complex routings, BA Holidays or travel agency bookings until OLCI stage. POUGs on Avios redemptions won't get you additional TPs/Avios, but they will on revenue tickets.

Short haul routes from LON to/from Europe

Return is tempting, but extra TPs won't really help me this membership year.

Does that mean just for that segment, or the whole itinerary?

I'm booked on a B bucket to the US, and would probably POUG the outbound but not if I lose the flexibility to change inbound schedule whilst over there.

Been offered $760 LAX-LHR WT+ to CW ($50 less than the first offer) but when I click Upgrade and it comes to the 'I do not wish to upgrade this flight' and the 'I wish to upgrade', it doesn't show the POUG offer and if I continue to upgrade, it just prices up at $2986 one way.

Has this happened to anyone else before?

Offered LHR-ORY for a flight tomorrow at £69 and CDG-LHR for last flight on Thursday at £75. That's a bit more like it. Accepted the return leg (because I will be at CDG for some time, and it'll give me somewhere nice to wait). Kind FTers guesting me into GC on the outbound so less of a benefit...

I'm amazed anyone is still bothering to buy Club Europe anymore since the squish particularly as noted in another thread that 1c you're likely to get your feet/legs bashed, ex gatwick 1f you might not have a view, and 1c & 1c the view is the galley.

I'd still buy SH club on a 767 route but that's about it now

For me, CE isn't just about the onboard experience and certainly not about the seat. Although I admit as Bronze I get some of the ground benefits - CE checkin and priority boarding - but there's also FT security, the lounge, and something slightly nicer to eat on board along with a better crew-to-pax ratio. TBH, I do it mostly for the TPs because I have to say I value the bronze benefits, especially seat selection at D-7. I've scored 100% exit row on all my Y SH sectors since making Bronze, and for me, that makes a big difference.

All my SH travel last year and at least 6 years prior to that was CE but since the squish I just can't find it in myself to justify the price difference. And I certainly can not justify it from gatwick. On a number of occasions late last year the curtain wasn't drawn and so the "separate cabin" effectively did not exist.

On one or even two hour journey I'll put up with second class. On longer journeys I couldn't contemplate the journey on ba in economy and for the price to be 'up front' I think I'm going to be looking at alternatives from now on.

I've noticed an interesting change in POUG behaviour with my last couple of trips.

I was offered a POUG for at least one of the sectors 24 hours after purchasing the ticket, this offer then disappeared around 48 hours after that and did not reappear.

I assumed that this was because the POUG seats had been sold, however I've just been on a trip where I knew a couple of people on the same flight. One was offered POUGs right up until check-in, the other in the run-up to the flight, while the POUG never reappeared for my booking.

I've done a couple of good value CE bookings out of LGW in the last few months, so maybe BA's new POUG logic thinks I should always be paying for CE and is whisking them away?

However travelling on a cheap I or R fare with a Saturday night stay, paid for out of my own pocket, is not comparing apples with apples when looking at a short midweek business trip out of LHR, paid for on the company dime (Y only for end-to-end trips of <6 hours).

POUGs (paid for out of my own pocket) to CE where available I always viewed a pleasant "treat", especially when travelling across a mealtime, and where I wouldn't arrive home until late in the evening.

Upgrading without a POUG certainly wouldn't have that same "treat" factor. It's a little guilty pleasure and boy does it feel good after a hectic day when it happens. Definitely something which made me appreciate choosing BA.

Maybe it's a blip, but one's paranoid streak makes me feel like I'm on some sort of "naughty step".

Wondered if anyone else has observed this behaviour?

I don't like people sitting next to me

I understand I could buy some sort of comfort seat but I can't be bothered.

That said if Row 1 is not available at time of booking I don't bother.

I used to really like the old un-squished club Europe and the free middle seat which, admittedly you don't get on the 767 except middle section, is one of the attractions.

Agree that without row 1 I wouldn't bother either. Except that gatwick it'll either be a lesser chance of the old faithful 737 and more and more a chance of easy jet in blue but without the Lo-cost or a windowless seat on the F side. Hideous.

Hi
I booked LAX-LHR-YVR in CW+ yesterday travelling late September back October 12. Less than 12 hours later I noticed an upgrade offer in my booking. It appears to be offering it for both legs. I'm afraid to go in and look at the price thinking that if I back out it won't be there at another time. Am I being paranoid?

From reading through this post I gather that the offer can come and go over time and the price can go up and down. Does it tend to be lowest at check-in? We're travelling outbound on my birthday so it would be a nice treat......depending on the price.

I got upgraded on CX from PE to Biz recently but who knows if that luck will repeat itself on BA!

I'm AA platinum (OW Sapphire). Really excited to be trying the A380!

Yes, in the absence of any other explanation. BA's poor computers can't even do a multi-city redemption.

Prices can and will go up or down. Generally AUP (check-in) is the same as POUG, if there is a difference that can be detected I'd say AUP is higher than POUG, but whatever the mysterious calculation is means that I can't be certain in saying that. The only way to do it is to decide a realistic and sensible price relevant to you and your financial make up.
