How did I never know about this place?? My mum is from Kiel and so I had regular trips to Hamburg as a kid. Not been for a few years, but I love that city. It is so elegant in the summer.

Am I missing something here, are you not allowed to pay £7 (or whatever) to select your seat?

For my upcoming HBO from AMS it's €24 to select a seat. No thanks...

There is good availability for a few cities this weekend. Take a look at BRU, MAD, BCN, LIS, CPH, AMS, HAM, amongst others.

That's what we're doing! Off to Madrid for the day on Sunday, after spending the night the Sofitel at T5. My partner doesn't know. :-)

At £15 each way on MAD, it's a 35% increase on the price paid!
Got the third row in ET on the way back, though 16 on the outbound Iberia was a squeeze for my tall companion

I am not planning to reserve seats. I'm really tempted, but it'd be £60 for both passengers and both flights. I am a bit worried about the outbound on Iberia though... all rows in Economy up to row 12 are blocked!

I had the same issue, and they remained blocked after t-72 too. As long as you're not too tall it's not too bad. We (2x Gold) ended up with an empty aisle seat. With no economy service there's not as much to be said for being right at the front other than a couple of mins quicker off

So you ended up with row 16... Does it mean that they'll keep the front of economy empty?!

No, there were people there, many of oriental appearance so not sure if it was a tour group block booking. There were a couple of empty seats in the front couple of rows next to other people - maybe they were premium and therefore blocked.
In any instance not worth paying £30 for.

It looks like it'll be a very unfortunate seat selection! Precious minutes taken away from the time to spend in Madrid!

The airport metro line only runs every 10 mins so it might be worth finding out the timetable for that so that you don't just miss one. From the T4 corner IB non-Schengen gates to the platform can be done in about 10 mins including ticket purchase, brisk walking and strategic use of travelators.

A friend who used to live in Madrid suggested we take a bus to Atocha (not sure why), as I imagine the metro will be quicker. I'm even considering a taxi.
