Is Texas that expensive for rental cars?? Never rented there before, so i am not sure what is going on.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks

Try L282800, it worked for me at JFK where no other code did.

I'll be using my local drving license, and not Australia's license. Will that matter?
Then I have this Upgrade Coupon from my credit card, UPWA037. Can the 'overseas' credit card upgrade coupon be combined with NSW's rate?

I was browsing the forum, and I came across this post:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=518214
that surposely give the Avis Preferred Select Upgrade, can all these be combined to get the best deal possible?

This will be my 1st rental with Avis :)

thank you

btw, I am from Singapore holding a Singapore driving license.

I wouldn't bother with the upgrade, as most rates are about $1-$2 apert, expecpt upper cars.

Should be not problem with id as you could say that you are coming over to work for the Australian Musuem on short term assignment and are on a field trip in Victoria.

You will not get a lower rate in Australia using the AWD i provided. The preferred select code did not work for me in Australia.

Best value group is full size.

IAH tacks on a lot of surcharges for their centralized rental car facility. But that wouldn't explain $90/day for compact. I have an intermediate reserved at National for a Saturday night a couple weeks from now for $28.09 all-in.

That sounds about the right price!!! But i went to National and asked for my date(Feb 16th to Feb 17th). It gave me a rate of $88 aprox.
Avis is a little higher than that.
Still trying to find a good discount code but so far nothing works.

How do you know you got a good rate? It shows "Contract Rate" when you enter the code. Please don't offer something that will get people in trouble.

Texas cities have some of the highest car rental taxes in the U.S. TX has no personal income tax, but it has relatively high property, sales, and use taxes.

Hi, i will be renting a 4WD from Avis in May in Cairns-region. You guess I can use this rate using a European Drivers Licence and my Avis Preferred Card?

The rate looks a lot better with the AWD you mentioned.

Tried this and it raised my rate? Am I putting this in the wrong place? I put it in the AWD section.
Thanks!

Please don't jump on me for asking about the B999000 AWD . . .

But I am a new Chairman's Club member - can I use this code (I noticed some posts saying the problem with the code had to do with Chairman's Club membership.

Thanks.

I've never used the D005927 but the rate is astounding. 3 day 23 hour rental out of Milan Malpensa (MXP):

AWD No CoR CarSize Base Rate Total Rate Included
CorpDisc GB Compact 105.00 UKL 125.49 UKL CDW+TP
CorpDisc US Compact 262.00 USD 439.08 USD CDW+TP

D005297 GB Compact 105.00 UKL 125.49 UKL CDW+TP
D005297 US Compact 241.00 USD 410.09 USD CDW+TP

D005927 GB Compact 74.74 UKL 90.69 UKL CDW+TP
D005927 US Compact 178.00 USD 323.15 USD CDW+TP

Note:
CoR = country of residence.
CorpDisc = rate using my company's corporate AWD

£91 vs $439? Crazy.

Any experiences with D005927 are appreciated.

For rentals in French Polynesia I searched through this thread, tried about a dozen AWD's suggested here (including D005927 and others), picked out the best one, and then called AVIS to insert my Preferred Select Wizard number. To my surprize the agent told me that my rate went down when she put the Wizard number in my record. When I got the e-mail confirmation I noticed that my AWD had changed to A888813. I really don't know anything about this number, or where it came from. Any ideas?

Along the same lines the Queensland Government rate is P6824002. Gives pretty good pricing too (depending on the location in Australia, better rates than the NSW govt rate).

D454000

I did a search and did not find this code, but D454000 is giving me an awesome deal in Italy, about 35% off.

However, I do not know the basis of the code or if ID is required. Anyone ever used this? Thanks.

Butterflytiff Mar 16, 2006 7:43 pm

I used A541254 - - Anyone else?

I tired the code A541254 and the only price from Avis for St. Kitts that changed was the 4x4 - which happened to be the only one I wanted.

Should I also make a second reservation under my name (the previous is my boyfriends) just in case? Or just make a second reservation undre his name just in case? It is a small island - but I am not sure if they will make us show them anything.

Thank you,

How did you manage to get 35% off with d454000?

I tried that code for italy and the price was the same (I'm in the uk)

However as noted earlier d005927 works very well and if you prepay on the avis.co.uk site then I don't see how they can ask for any proof of any kind do you?

I am going to Grand Forks ND in 2 weeks and need a good deal on a SUV. I tried A282800 and it stopped working. Any ideas on another code I can use without any problems. Thanks

Anybosy knows what type of discount can we get with this number??
I came with my avis prefered select card.

D005927 -- amazing rate, info anyone?

This knocked off around 25-30% off my last quote for a Europe rental. Does anyone know what the affiliation of this code is? I'm assuming it's corporate -- do I need to show I.D.?

Kabuki Dream Boy Mar 21, 2006 11:54 am

No idea of the affiliation of this code but did you actually use it for your booking, I'm assuming you did so did they ask for id? You can always say you forgot to bring id with you I suppose...

I've never found a good deal at GFK. Good luck!

Of course, I've never rented from any other airport where they have the car started and warming up for you as you walk off the plane.

By "they" do you mean the computer system? No, the computer system didn't ask me for ID although other posts indicate that booking with some codes raises questions when you go to pick up the car. (I think the AVIS employee code is one...) It would be easier for me to fake this if I knew what I was supposed to be faking.

L093590 still giving very good domestic rates.

L093590 has been giving even better rates than usual lately. I'm wondering if the company negotiated lower rates since the 1st of the year.
L093590 has been my favorite AWD for domestic rentals. Consistantly low rate and never an I.D. hassle. Also has a $3k maximum liability cap on any damage.

gre Mar 22, 2006 8:41 am

Compact rates in Australia

Been checking rates for a week in mid April.

Bottom line:
380 AUD base rate and unusable AWDs, e.g., L282800.
363 AUD D454000, A074800.
346 AUD P682400.
312 AUD D005927.

Several, like P768700 (a govt. rate?) do not include LDW.

I thought liability came standard with a rental car and the additional optional charge is for collision, i.e. to protect the rental car in case it's your fault. Is this incorrect?

Check it out. With some of these codes the final res page specifically says loss damage waiver (LDW) excluded. I've never rented a car in Australia so I don't know how important LDW is or whether or not my Visa Plat card is enough.
Anyone?

I think not having liability is a problem since your U.S. car insurance company doesn't act as primary insurance once you drive outside the country. That would mean you're driving without insurance in AUS and I think our VISA cards only offer Collision -- CDW. This is good to know -- if the savings is coming from exlcusions of insurance coverage that we need to purchase back...

fishee Mar 22, 2006 12:04 pm

I just got off the phone with VISA benefits -- the agent told me that Liability is something we need to purchase separately from AVIS if we're renting internationally. In the VISA benefits package it says to decline CDW/LDW but she said the LDW doesn't stand for liability, it stands for Loss Damage Waiver. She said that the words Collision and Loss are used interchangeably and to not confuse Loss with Liability which is separate.

So, i guess I need to contact AVIS since my quote also says that Liability was "declined"...

gre Mar 22, 2006 1:06 pm

No insurance?

So I just talked to my insurance guy and he said that no company except USAA for the military provides liability insurance while driving outside the US or Canada. His understanding is that platinum cards provide no liability insurance either.

So it seems that every time I've rented a car internationally in the last 10 years I've been driving without insurance.

Now I'm looking at the Avis site and I don't even see any liability insurance offered? Anyone know what the deal is?

lt1GM Mar 22, 2006 1:15 pm

...So it seems that every time I've rented a car internationally in the last 10 years I've been driving without insurance...
Not necessarily. I know for a fact that in Germany, (unlimited?) liability insurance for car rentals is mandated by law, and all rates for car rentals quoted there must include it.

I think (but don't know) that may be the case in other EU countries.

ps this is my first post here. great site!

First, welcome to FT! I have saved many a $$$ using flyertalk. But, I have noticed the same thing, L282800 ("L", not "A") seems to have no effect anymore on a recurring rental for me.

I currently have a reservation using that code with a lower price for June, will that be honored?
