CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.
Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."
Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:
Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.
* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

Bought 2 $100 AA giftcards on 11/27. Reimbursed for one on 11/30. Nothing for the other since. Does contacting support work? Or just let it go?

Chose airline, and bought 2X $100 GC on the AA website back to back on 12/12
12/16 still nothing yet, but my benefits meter isn't showing up, it says:
"Data currently unavailable.
Please try again later.
$200 Airline Fee Credit
Status currently unavailable"
Anyone else having trouble receiving the credits too?

The purchase posted earlier in the day and the credit posted sometime that night.
I have now put in another purchase for $100 on 12/11 and one for $50 on 12/12 (oddly both are showing as pending from 12/11). I also registered the Platinum yesterday (12/11) and put in a purchase for $200 today (12/12). Hopefully these will all go through.

So, in my experience, it takes about 3 days on Aspire and Platinum. And you can purchase up to $200. I have not tried $250.

My meter was unavailable yesterday and today still showing $250. Just bought a $50 to see if a smaller amount works. If the $50 one gets reimbursed this week, should I try the remaining $200 in smaller increments given how close it is to the end of the year?
