According to this thread in the Alaska forum the reimbursement of Alaska Club memberships is no longer a problem. To see how much of your annual credit you've used, log in to AmEx, select the card in question, choose "Membership->Benefits" off the menu bar, scroll down to see the travel credit benefit. (with thanks to Lumpylump76)
Tickets cancelled within 24 hours are refunded back to the card used for the purchase.Tickets for travel dates > 60 days out can be deposited to your wallet when cancelled (this has not been true for some time). Change fees may apply depending on your status. Change fees are waived for MVP Gold and MVP Gold 75k members according to this page: https://www.alaskaair.com/content/mi...ID:MileagePlan (expand "service benefits" towards the bottom of the page). The wallet funds will expire one year after the issue date of the original ticket.

Here are my datapoints. Seems to be weird what they are reimbursing and what they are not, almost like someone is manually doing it, but I doubt that.

Another $65 ticket purchase two weeks ago, and another $19 seat selection charge one week ago ... Neither one reimbursed. They've clearly clamped down, to the point of not even giving automatic credits on items that are clearly eligible for reimbursement.

Was browsing my transactions on the Amex website today, if you click on the airfare charge it clearly show airfare and shows the route of the ticket purchased, not sure if this is new or not, but may be they are getting detailed data. Doesn't explain why some airfares are being reimbursed and some aren't.

That's how its always been--and how it works for most CCs (at least that I have)--the issuer gets the trip data.
