Reminder: you must enroll and select AS as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. Click HERE to enroll.
As of June 2017 gift certificates are no longer reimbursed. Link to buy gift certicates

According to this thread in the Alaska forum the reimbursement of Alaska Club memberships is no longer a problem. To see how much of your annual credit you've used, log in to AmEx, select the card in question, choose "Membership->Benefits" off the menu bar, scroll down to see the travel credit benefit. (with thanks to Lumpylump76)

Tickets cancelled within 24 hours are refunded back to the card used for the purchase. Tickets for travel dates > 60 days out can be deposited to your wallet when cancelled (this has not been true for some time). Change fees may apply depending on your status. Change fees are waived for MVP Gold and MVP Gold 75k members according to this page: https://www.alaskaair.com/content/mi...ID:MileagePlan (expand "service benefits" towards the bottom of the page). The wallet funds will expire one year after the issue date of the original ticket.

New on here. Are there any remaining ways to use the amex airline credit for gift cards or flights? It seems like all the loopholes are being closed, and I really don't care much about checked baggage or airline food.

Welcome to Flyertalk. Are you asking specifically about Alaska Airlines?

Any airline really. I know this is AS only, but I didn't seem to see a general thread for airline credits. I do not currently have an amex with the credit, but I had been planning on getting both the Gold and the Aspire before I started reading reports of the airline credit loopholes being closed.

American Express no longer reimburses gift card purchases from any airline. However, at some airlines gift cards can be used to pay a portion of an airfare, and if the Platinum/ Gold/ Aspire card is used to pay the balance it may be coded as an Additional Collection (or similar) and reimbursed. Details vary by carrier, read about those that you might fly.

Thanks mia! I had read about the gift card purchase loophole dying a few months ago, but this looks pretty promising.

I have a city prestige credit I need to use and a Hilton Honors benefit I need to use. Is booking the under $100 and putting it in your wallet still working?

It was Amex? Did you buy and move to your wallet? No credit issued? How did you go about it? What I have going for me is that I am a 75K so I can buy tickets that depart way in the future and then deposit them later in my wallet way after the 24 hours and then use them as I see fit.

This should work if you have status and the ability to do this. What people should do is buy cheap refundable tickets and then move them to your wallet later on. You should receive a credit within the month, and if you donít just refund the ticket. If you do cancel the ticket and move the credit to your wallet. I canít imagine a SEA-DEN/YVR/GEG refundable can be that expensive.

Yes, I'm MPV Gold and I have the ability to cancel and move the funds to my wallet as well. The last two sub-$100 ticket purchases (not refunded) did not trigger the Amex credit on my Aspire card. The exact same type of purchases in prior months did trigger the credit.

Update: No
<$50 ticket (plus $25 GC) for a <$20 charge on 8/23 received the credit 4 days later.

In the last couple of weeks, had 2 ticket purchases around $50 (one was less and one more) as well as a few $5.60 award charges and a couple of $25 seat charges all reimbursed within a day or two after the charges from AS posted. Didn't get credited for two of the same type of ticket and award charges early this month. Waiting to see if a ~$75 ticket bought this week moves the meter.

So to clarify, ~$50 and $5.60 charges made early August didn't credit, but past 2 weeks did?

I had a $19 Alaska Airlines seat selection charge post on Aug 26th. No movement on the meter and no credit yet ... One week later. For me, the auto-credit system isn't even working on items that clearly fall under the reimbursable categories list.

So am I correct in saying that we don't know for sure if this <$100 option has been closed or if it was just a temporary glitch?

Purchased two one way flights using Amex Hilton Aspire card 8/28 on Alaska Airlines, each flight cost $83.30. The flights were purchased separately so i had two charges of $83.30 on my card. Amex reimbursed me twice at $83.30 on 8/31.
Enigma368 and GundamWing01 like this.
