I tried to book some LX flights I've seen on the Expertflyer today. Called in (no waiting, Diamond privileges worked well), but the reps insisted on not seeing the requested flights. Does this happen often?

Anyway, I wouldn't worry. I would book online now and then call in and demand the points. As the agent told me, the PNR creation date is what matters, and we all agree that date is in Canada, so there's NO reason why it should be charged higher points until it's midnight at least somewhere in Canada.
their system time is GMT though... it'll be interesting what they say, when i book they show:

Transaction date - 2015-12-15 03:13:08

EDIT: for those with the same issue, in my ticketed itinerary via email it says "Date of issue 14-Dec 2015", i prolly have better recourse with that

That's bs. They can't devaluate based on an invented timezone.

They might as well use Marshall Islands then, since it's 23 hours ahead.

I'm afraid I don't know. I'm not familiar with the ANA tool. Well, I guess our summer family visit will cost 10k (25k) miles per person more.

Thanks...at least I have an option. I guess the 24hr free cancellation doesn't apply to award flights (since the flight is less than 22 days away.)
I know I can change for a future date, with the fee of course.

If you booked today, I would still argue for a refund. They can issue it manually, you will just need to escalate a bunch of times.

This has always been a disgraceful cash grab by Aeroplan. Basically you can STILL cancel an award up to 2 hours prior to flight. It's just that it now costs you $180 to cancel, instead of $90.

just got off the phone with them... they offered me an explanation about the local time in thailand, then when I pointed out a NRT-HKG roundtrip was still being priced at the old rate they said the system must be changing over now

sucks that the IT change is having the reps to offer excuses, there was no supervisor available so i'll call back in the morning

Yup. Like I said, I would always argue that the closing time of the support desk is the cutoff time - and it shuts at midnight EST, so that's when the deval should go in effect.

Just past midnight. SIN has been rezoned, but price is still as per old chart, if I try to book onlin: 60K for Japan - SIN , 30K Japan - HKG in J.

Are you meaning that the cost for canceling has doubled?

No. What I mean is that while they officially say tickets can be cancelled only 22 days out and more, in reality, this has always been a cash grab - if you're willing to pay $180, you could always cancel 2 hours in (by calling, first moving your ticket to another date more than 22 days out, and immediately cancelling it).

I suppose there were the odd cases where your PNR was 11 months old and you literally had no space to push out the ticket, but those are fringe cases. For the majority, cancellation of any ticket within 2 hours has always been available for $180.

Quick update, after calling and holding for an hour I was lucky to speak with an amazing rep, I had to explain my situation of the booking was made at the old pre-Dec 15 mileage level but the travel zones were charged at the new classification

long story short.... rep called ticketing and got my ticket correctly ticketed at the old level as it should have been (my top up miles will be refunded as well)

hint: leave a callback number in case your call drops, mine did but she was nice enough to call me back

Aeroplan sneakily adapted new rate one day early on Dec. 14th?

I am fully aware the new rate will be adapted since Dec. 15th so I was trying to ticket some coming trips last night ( Dec. 14th) ,before the dead line. But I found out all my trips between Tokyo ( Asia 1) & Bangkok (Asia 1 at old rate ) and Hong Kong (Asia 1) & Singapore ( Asia 1 at old rate) are quoted 60K, instead of 30K. Obviously Aeroplan has silently move Thailand and Singapore from Asia 1 to Asia 2 even before the date they announced. That is a new low of Aeroplan to play dirty! I am just so fed up with endless bad news from Aeroplan and equally upset with its related family memberAir Canada and Altitude that I have been loyal for the past 10 years.
