Inflation is one thing but some of the increases are apparently excessive to say the least.

Depends. My awards go unchanged and with the depreciation of the CDN dollar, they did go up. I'm not stupid enough to realize this won't always be the case but I'm safe for 12-18 months.

In the meantime I'm snagging as many free AeroMarks as possible.

Angry Beware Dec. 15th?

AC is like 355 days out, so you should see Sept 2016 availability already

Big questions is whether VOLUNTARY CHANGES after Dec 15 triggers the NEW rates or not
I agree, this really is the big question. Spend 105,000 points now on UK to Thailand, then change a date or flight after Dec. 15th, and find out you need another 45,000 points to do so? Surely the AC/ Aeroplan folks monitoring this forum can answer this now?

Not that it matters because, hey, let's not let facts get in the way of the Kool-Aid but when inflation was in the double digits (which is nothing compared to these increases), the $$$ in your bank account sure went up because interest rates were high, even on bank accounts. Now those dollars were worth less but they still went up.

Can't wait to see what red herring you pull out next...

The bad news:

They're tackling a lot of chart sweet spots in J/F. At least we get ~50 days notice.

https://www4.aeroplan.com/static/pdf...s-Chart-en.pdf

Canada to Europe 1 in J +20,000 in F +15,000
Europe 1 to Africa in J +20,000
Europe 1 to Australia in J +55,000
Business and First Class within Asia 1 is doubling... 30,000 -> 80,000 and 50,000 -> 110,000
Hawaii to Asia +75,000

Glad I just booked my Europe 1 to Hawaii... going up 40,000 in J too.

Region changes... the Asia ones suck for me:

- Poland moved into Europe 2
- Luxembourg moved into Europe 1
- Mongolia & Eastern Russia moved into Asia 1
- Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam moved into Asia 2 (damnit!)
I drafted up an excel sheet to show the differences.

What a joke I knew it was going to happen when TD got on the aeroplan bandwagon...

There is another change that is creeping in slowly----I was looking for NRT-YYC in Feb. It routed me ( priority awards) NRT-YVR-YYC with the NRT-YVR in Y and YVR-YYC in J but full J award redemption cost. The flight has 60% seats open according to the chart. AP is doing this more and more. If I were to do something like this I will fall afoul of laws but AP keeps getting away with this. (Of course I can pay 967000 mies and get a market fare seat but I refuse to do this as I think that is a bigger rip off!)

Air China does not have "Business Class" within China even though the plane is really a 2 class aircraft but you will still have to pay for "First Class" regardless and that will be 110K miles, thank you very much.

Ridiculous? Yes, it is. Does Aeroplan care? Non, absolutely not. As far Aeroplan is concerned, we are just a bunch of crazies talking on the internet that has no resemblance to its actual customer base. In the mind of Aeroplan executives, their customers are the most docile, gullible and simplest persons ever - just put a TV ad here and there, voil! No need to even disclose the kind of fees uh... "taxes" (within the published award charts) they are expected to pay in order to try to redeem their miles. Oh and they expire within just a year if you bank there for more than 365 days without touching them even though no other well known FFP have such anti-consumer policy. Gotta love the shortermism of these executives, because if there is any problem within 3-4 years, it will be someone else's problems, not theirs because by then, they will already off the plane with their golden parachute.
On 3-class planes they offer business class.

Mostly domestic legs of international flights. We once flew PVG-PEK on a decrepit A340 in business for just a tad more than Y. BTW food and wine were pretty bad. But than same is true of F on two class planes.

Reminded me of Belavia.

Great chart ^^
Thank you for sharing it.
A lot of "red" on that chart, with big numbers

That's because if you book on Western booking engines the only fare class they show you is the equivalent of full Y. Buy form a Chinese site and you can typically pay half or less the fares shown to Westerners.

Unfortunately, Air China is probably the worst of the major Chinese carriers.

Given the upcoming changes to Aeroplan, thought you all might find these ANA changes interesting.

Effective Oct 15.

That's completely insane. Not to mention they can't even book intra-Japan online (because taxes are $0) so any reservation requires a call into the call center, and arguing with agents for an hour that the $30 fee should be waived.
Finally opened up an Avios account to get around this Aeroplan nonsense.

Not really sure an intra-Japan flight is even worth 4500 Avios miles when I can book the same thing (HND-OIT) for 10,800 yen on ANA experience Japan fare.
