Important changes to the Aeroplan program (2015)

The good news:

We will now be able to book one-way flights in any region.

The bad news:

They're tackling a lot of chart sweet spots in J/F. At least we get ~50 days notice.

https://www4.aeroplan.com/static/pdf...s-Chart-en.pdf

Canada to Europe 1 in J +20,000 in F +15,000
Europe 1 to Africa in J +20,000
Europe 1 to Australia in J +55,000
Business and First Class within Asia 1 is doubling... 30,000 -> 80,000 and 50,000 -> 110,000
Hawaii to Asia +75,000

Mikekay made a great spreadsheet highlighting the changes:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Byg...lSU3hBTTg/view

Glad I just booked my Europe 1 to Hawaii... going up 40,000 in J too.

Region changes... the Asia ones suck for me:

- Poland moved into Europe 2
- Luxembourg moved into Europe 1
- Mongolia & Eastern Russia moved into Asia 1
- Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam moved into Asia 2 (damnit!)

If this is the only "enhancement" this year - then it's less painful than in prior years - changes in J/F Canada-Europe will hurt.

At least they are giving FF'ers some notice.

Wow, happy I burnt all my points this year with Euro J and F redemptions. Poland in Europe 2 has nothing to do with low YQ YYZ-WAW J redemptions on LO I am sure.

Didn't the J and F awards go up recently (like 2 years ago) to their current levels, for Europe at least?

Ouch. That hurts. That's what happens when they shower AP points on everyone and their dog's credit cards.

One way flights within any region is a nice change. Could be useful. But, then again...going from, say, Tokyo to Bangkok now costs 40k one way instead of 30k return. Stuff like that will limit the usefulness.

I'm disappointed by the change to Europe J fare...but hey that was bound to change.

Flights intra-Asia in premium cabins are very expensive, so while it's not a great change, it's still an acceptable/mediocre retail CPM.

I'm pretty sure Europe 1 used to be 80K until a couple years ago.

I'm disappointed in this devaluation, but you're right, it's probably an inevitable consequence of the number of Aeroplan miles they've been blowing out the door the past few years.

This is going to make it even harder for the average Joe to get any value out of the program. Saved up 20K a year for 5 years for a Europe J reward? Sorry, going to take you another year now.

I haven't gotten any e-mail, but for those having problems with links, here's the page on the Aeroplan website:

I just booked a pair of SQ J seats from HKG to SIN. Glad I didn't leave this any later.
