It's ridiculous that a flight, for example PEK-SHA, will be 80000 in business class now. I just don't get that.
Air China markets its domestic premium class as first class. So it will be cost 110k miles for a Pek-sha flight. Only a couple domestic flights have j class instead of f.

80K Aeroplan miles? Lol no, try more like 110K Aeroplan miles maybe.

Air China does not have "Business Class" within China even though the plane is really a 2 class aircraft but you will still have to pay for "First Class" regardless and that will be 110K miles, thank you very much.

Ridiculous? Yes, it is. Does Aeroplan care? Non, absolutely not. As far Aeroplan is concerned, we are just a bunch of crazies talking on the internet that has no resemblance to its actual customer base. In the mind of Aeroplan executives, their customers are the most docile, gullible and simplest persons ever - just put a TV ad here and there, voil! No need to even disclose the kind of fees uh... "taxes" (within the published award charts) they are expected to pay in order to try to redeem their miles. Oh and they expire within just a year if you bank there for more than 365 days without touching them even though no other well known FFP have such anti-consumer policy. Gotta love the shortermism of these executives, because if there is any problem within 3-4 years, it will be someone else's problems, not theirs because by then, they will already off the plane with their golden parachute.

AC only approve AC metal flights. These crazy amount of points would most likely be required by Air China/Amia.

Yes Air China has a lot to say on how many points Air Canada/Aeroplan charge

What if I decided to fly ZH instead within China? Why is it still the same AE points if Air China is setting the requirements.

Is this more facts from you?
Or just your best guess?

Without a doubt, just non-sense. The fact is you can fly Air China using Asia Miles, and the same trip is only 55K miles because it's "First Class". https://www.asiamiles.com/am/en/redeem/charts

PEK-SHA-PEK is also flown by China Eastern Airlines (MU) but since the latter classifies their intra-China flights with Business Class cabin, the same route, PEK-SHA-PEK is only 40K miles return with Cathay's Asia Miles. Whether it's 40K or 55K, it's no where near 110K miles that is being asked by Aeroplan. Best part of this story? You can actually earn Asia Miles in Canada via a number of credit cards including RBC's co-brand Cathay Pacific Visa, so we aren't just engaging in a futile theoretical exercise only on paper, far from it.

The Asia Miles chart has been the same for about 7-8 years already, if Air China really has any say on how Cathay or Asia Miles charge their own customers, we are not seeing any evidence here.

Also, the Aeroplan reward chart is not Air China specific. Even a short TPE-HKG-TPE on Eva is now 80K miles in Business class, so why is that the new mileage level is necessarily being dictated by Air China given that there are at least 5~6 carriers impacted in Asia by Aeroplan's reward chart change?

And if Cathay has any say over how AAdvantage runs their FFP, there wouldn't be a 67.5K First Class award North America-Asia today given that the same award using Asia Miles is about the double of AA's yet the flights are exactly the same, including class of service.

I have read quite a bit of non-sense here over the years, this one definitely ranks among the top.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but posters, such as WPGjetse come across with such authority, and no insight into their source of knowledge that it's hard to take them serious at times.

Remember Canadians are cheap. Well at least more cheap than the Brits.
100% true and fact checked

Anyway, back on topic.
Anyone who puts their eggs in one basket gets hit with these devaluations. If you only hold Aeroplan miles - well you just got screwed. Same holds true for any devaluation whereever it may be (and even CX storm is a brewin). AA cannot be far behind. Avios got devalued this year.

The question is - what hasnt been devalued - NOTHING.

Diversify. Your favourite AE award goes from 30k to 80k - use other miles from your portfolio.

I have been diversifying my points portfolio by recycling my Capital One Aspire World points into TTC tokens. I get a guaranteed 2 cents per dollar of CC spend and an excellent inflation hedge.

I have miles all over, mostly in Amex MR at the moment.

TTC tokens, lol. I have 1000 "P" stamps bought @Costco days after the announcement of the huge increase. I did intend on using them but I got so mad I now fax and email 95% of my statements. I will probably offload some after the next price increase, there is always a price increase.

You should look at the Amex Starwood card. I think it give you the best dollar value. Could be the best card on the market(Canada).

<---------

I've those as well. Almost have a free night award.

Also got 2 9 hour layover stays @Sheraton-CGK for 3K and 4K SPG points, vs $190 per stay. It's 1K more per stay starting Jan1.

Odd that CA would require different amount of miles from different FF programs too.
