If I bought the flight I would get about 750 AE miles between the ccard and the flight.

I guess it's a value of a 2.5 cents per mile, which is not great but as they say, better than nothing.

One thing for sure, it is better than 20,000 AE miles for the same flight post December bookings.

Oh yeah, once the December devaluation kicks in, it basically kills Aeroplan for me for intra-Japan. I did not use it often, mostly because it used to be right in the sweet spot for HND-ISG (unfortunately, that flight is 1215 miles, so I imagine it'll be in the next Avios band that ends at 1200), and it was good for open jaws. Sadly, it was a nightmare to book it at all times, because agents would never waive the fee - or at least not on the first try - so oh well. But it sucks to see one viable option go.

Thanks! This is very useful! Lots of decrease in the Middle East, N. Africa, East, West, South Africa and Indian Sub. Continent area. But very bad for Asia 1 and Asia 2, where I mostly visit.

Does anyone know what will happen if you make changes to a reward ticket after Dec. 15th? For example, I am booked BKK-MAN-BKK for 105,000 pts. for next summer. After Dec. 15th. , that goes up a staggering 45,000 pts! If I make a change to the routing and/ or dates, will that incur the new level of pts. required?

Lots of people have asked the question here (including myself) what happens if you want to make a change to a booking post December 15 ie will you have to pay the higher mileage levels. I asked this question to 3 different Aeroplan agents this week. The scenario was if I have a Europe 1 booking and wanted to make changes (not including any zone changes).

Agent 1 told me that yes the new higher mileage would apply.

Agent 2 told me no.

When I talked to Agent 3 I told her the 2 previous agents gave me 2 different answers. She then put me on hold to go get clarification. When she came back it sounded like she was reading from something which indicated that you would not have to pay the higher mileage levels as long as there is no zone change.

Take it with not a grain but an entire package of salt. Aeroplan Agents are notorious for giving out wrong advice.

Thanks for the info. Once before when Aeroplan changed they still honoured changes for booking under the old way. Especially when people booked RTW trips. Also other airlines that have changed their points systems like US, AA, and BA still honoured changes. However, aeroplan seems to do as they wish...or should I say the phone agents seem to do as they wish as info differs from call to call.

I think we won't have any clear idea till the time comes, i.e., after people start to report their factual experiences, post-Dec 15th, 2015. But, the general recollection I have is that you will NOT be charged extra mileage to reflect the current higher levels at that point in time, when changing an Aero reward booking while keeping within the destination zone.

For eg, you can find various posts where people reported that they were NOT charged extra points, when they had originally booked a 125K mini-rtw J Asia-1 award prior to the Jan 01, 2014 increase, and then making changes later on during 2014 where the required points had then increased to 150K for the same award.

And then over the ensuing pages, he answers with a confirmation that changes were done with JUST a recalculation of taxes, and no mention of extra miles charged.

Then in a different but similar vein, during last year's Aeroplan booking glitch, there were reports of the system automatically charging higher points on changed itineraries within the same zone. See margarita girl's post here:

So, while this is not a case of changing an itinerary after a point devaulation, who knows if Aeroplan will start to implement similar automatic increased points charges in 2016, for pre-devaluation bookings.

For the ones who wonder if booking before Dec15 and change itinerary after will incur additional 45k, here's another data point. Called aeroplan today and talked to one phone rep who said there will not be addtional 45k charge.

OP should add date into OP and thread title to indicate it starts Dec 15, 2015 (I know it's in the PDF)

I just made a change to an existing ticket, and at the end asked what will happen to changes after Dec 15th.?

The experienced and very helpful lady, who has been around since the glorious days of the orange 747's , even went to check with her supervisor, and returned 15 minutes later with a definitive "No" new mileage levels for changes after Dec. 15th. unless you try and change either zone, or class. i.e. cannot change to Business from Economy; Asia 1 to asia 2.

So there you have it.

What if you have booked, prior do December 15h, an Asia 1 NRT-BKK-NRT and post December 15th you change it to a BKK-NRT-BKK. I assume since the class and zones stay the same, it's likely we won't be charged more miles?
