Platinum/Gold Welcome Amenities at Accor Hotels
#181
Hotel: Swissotel Grand Shanghai
Status: Gold
VIP treatment: The gentleman at the desk said that he would give us a "nice room", due to our loyalty status, though never expressly said "upgrade". I don't believe we received an upgrade, though looking at the room types online, the next room type would have been very similar anyway. We booked a Swiss Business Advantage Room, which was on a Private Sale rate, where the special rate was the same as the lowest level room.
We received drink vouchers, which could be redeemed for soft drink, juice, a wide range of teas, house wines and Tsingdao. No cocktails or mocktails on the voucher drink list.
There was no welcome gifts placed in the room. Nothing. Nada.
Reaction: Meh. To be honest, for the price we paid, we could stay in a Shanghai Pullman or a Sofitel and get better loyalty recognition, or we could save some money and stay at the Novotel Shanghai Atlantis and get looked after quite well, too.

Hotel: Sofitel Kunming
Status: Gold
VIP treatment: Nothing. Had to ask for the room upgrade at check-in. No drink vouchers given at check-in (had to ask for them the next day). No welcome gift in room (due to the room change from the upgrade) but nothing was delivered following check-in, or the following day.
Reaction: Underwhelmed, which is unfortunate because the property itself is fantastic and the breakfast is one of the best hotel breakfast buffets I've had in a long time.

I stayed a second time at the Sofitel Kunming, because I got stranded for a night in Kunming (thanks China Eastern). Loyalty recognition was much better, though I assume something had been put in my profile following my initial stay at the hotel and the subsequent guest satisfaction survey.
This stay was made online at about 4pm on the day of arrival, and everything was ready and in place when we arrived just after 9:15pm at the hotel.
Hotel: Sofitel Kunming
Status: Gold
VIP treatment: Received an upgrade from a Superior Room to a Superior Club Room (with Club benefits - though I arrived after 9:15pm, so no chance to use them, we had also booked a Bed+BKF rate, so we had BKF included anyway). Received drink vouchers. Token fruit plate in the room upon arrival. Late checkout of 1pm was granted (normal checkout time 12 noon).
We also were starving after our long day of being stuck in a regional airport with only snacks to devour, and so we were briskly escorted to the restaurant that was about to close, and the chef agreed to stay back a few minutes to cook us some dinner (provided we didn't order anything that took too long to cook, such as a roast chicken or something).
Reaction: Very satisfied. Would definitely return, though I would be interested to see what benefits I would receive normally, compared to what I received this time in what was clearly a "making of amends" for the previous stay.

Hotel: Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua
Status: Platinum
VIP treatment: Local tropical fruits, Chocolate platter and bottle of Still water & a plate of Cupcake, Macron and Chocolate as it was AccorHotels Day
Reaction: TBH, not an amazing Welcome amenity for a Sofitel. But that's my two cents.

Hotel: Swissotel Merchant Court (Two separate stay)
Status: Platinum
VIP treatment:
(1st Stay) Fruit platter and some Chocolate and the Signature Swissotel "Swiss Chocolate"
(2nd Stay) Fruit platter and some Chocolate and since we were celebrating a birthday, a strawberry mousse cake.
Reaction: For a Swissotel, I would consider this acceptable for a mid--upper scale hotel.

most of the experience staff left novotel melaka, and they hire those 17-19 years old kids to serve at lounge,
no proper training given and the hotel wont give them authority to handle guest request.
a few of my 2017-2018 stays also ended up leaving bad impressions to my family and friends,
issues were:
air-conditioning problem (cool air stopped after running a while, keep swapping room but this wont help because it is centralized air conditioning issue),
no platinum recognition (rejected early check in and late check out, no welcome plate, no welcome drink)
extremely late check in (normal and silver member only able to get room after 6pm, which is ridiculous)
bathroom clogged (clogged by hair)
dirty towels
poor lounge food and drink..
poor services (surprised me that most of the staffs were under age of 20..)

Hotel: Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor (Siem Reap, Cambodia)
Status: Platinum
VIP treatment: Given a 10 am early check in the day before. Met by one excellent FO staff who conducted perfect check in while sitting in Lobby Lounge. Very friendly and efficient FOM came over immediately to supervise check in and then chat. Served a fresh mixed fruit juice in very attractive ceramic "glass" during check in. Given one welcome drink voucher for anything on menu except champagne and spirits. Given a welcome letter with full list of Platinum benefits. Attractive fruit platter waiting in room with handwritten welcome card from GM. In evening two staff delivered a particular alcoholic drink with mixer and ice that I favour in Club Lounges. Was written in my profile by another hotel, along with two simple things I like in my room when staying at upscale or Luxury brands. At check out was again treated very kindly by FOM and check in staff who waived me off outside Lobby. At check out was given 9 am early check in for next Stay in a few days. List of Platinum benefits includes: flexible 24 hour check in and out, usual buffet breakfast now available in Asia (a la carte menu and buffet), discounts for spa and retail stores, complimentary pressing 3 pieces per Stay, not day, and no laundry, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages from mini-bar which I forgot to open, a couple of other things. Lots of water bottles in room. Algotherm toiletries (I do't know the brand).
I booked the cheapest room and was given what they call a Landmark Room on the top floor (4th Floor) with pool view. The room seems to be the largest available below a Suite. In original building which is most convenient, I suppose, above Reception, Lounge, Restaurant etc.
Reaction: This is low season with some rain but I was amazed how quiet the hotel was. Hardly saw any guests. I suppose most people out sightseeing during the day. Huge pool with pool bar and extensive area of grass. Lots of deckchairs but did not see anyone in the pool. Only three people at breakfast. In May/June stayed two weeks at Le Meridien with hundreds of package tourists at breakfast and busses lined up outside for departure at 7:30 or 8 am. Most staff I met addressed me by name. Beautiful, traditional type of property. Five minutes by Tuk Tuk to central area. Absolutely no complaints but a possible weak spot was the breakfast buffet and menu. Very good of course but not great. Sofitel Damansara and Pullman KLCC (both in Kuala Lumpur) also offer menu and buffet style and are probably higher quality. But that may be a bit harsh. Nothing wrong with this Raffles' breakfast. Extremely good. Champagne bottle was there but I forgot the brand and did not drink it.
First Stay at a Raffles and will be extremely happy to go back.
