VIP treatment: Given a 10 am early check in the day before. Met by one excellent FO staff who conducted perfect check in while sitting in Lobby Lounge. Very friendly and efficient FOM came over immediately to supervise check in and then chat. Served a fresh mixed fruit juice in very attractive ceramic "glass" during check in. Given one welcome drink voucher for anything on menu except champagne and spirits. Given a welcome letter with full list of Platinum benefits. Attractive fruit platter waiting in room with handwritten welcome card from GM. In evening two staff delivered a particular alcoholic drink with mixer and ice that I favour in Club Lounges. Was written in my profile by another hotel, along with two simple things I like in my room when staying at upscale or Luxury brands. At check out was again treated very kindly by FOM and check in staff who waived me off outside Lobby. At check out was given 9 am early check in for next Stay in a few days. List of Platinum benefits includes: flexible 24 hour check in and out, usual buffet breakfast now available in Asia (a la carte menu and buffet), discounts for spa and retail stores, complimentary pressing 3 pieces per Stay, not day, and no laundry, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages from mini-bar which I forgot to open, a couple of other things. Lots of water bottles in room. Algotherm toiletries (I do't know the brand).
I booked the cheapest room and was given what they call a Landmark Room on the top floor (4th Floor) with pool view. The room seems to be the largest available below a Suite. In original building which is most convenient, I suppose, above Reception, Lounge, Restaurant etc.
Reaction: This is low season with some rain but I was amazed how quiet the hotel was. Hardly saw any guests. I suppose most people out sightseeing during the day. Huge pool with pool bar and extensive area of grass. Lots of deckchairs but did not see anyone in the pool. Only three people at breakfast. In May/June stayed two weeks at Le Meridien with hundreds of package tourists at breakfast and busses lined up outside for departure at 7:30 or 8 am. Most staff I met addressed me by name. Beautiful, traditional type of property. Five minutes by Tuk Tuk to central area. Absolutely no complaints but a possible weak spot was the breakfast buffet and menu. Very good of course but not great. Sofitel Damansara and Pullman KLCC (both in Kuala Lumpur) also offer menu and buffet style and are probably higher quality. But that may be a bit harsh. Nothing wrong with this Raffles' breakfast. Extremely good. Champagne bottle was there but I forgot the brand and did not drink it.
First Stay at a Raffles and will be extremely happy to go back.
Thank you! This is the first LCAH-Raffles mini review!
