According to the T&C's, only flights booked after signing up for the trial count but some have reported getting credit for flights booked before but not flown till after signing up. So to be safe, sign up first. Feel like taking a chance, sign up before taking the first flight but I'd book as few flights as possible before signing up since they might not count toward the trial.

•Silver: Fly 7,500 miles or 10 segments
•Gold: Fly 15,000 miles or 20 segments
•Platinum: Fly 22,500 miles or 30 segments
•Chairmans: Fly 30,000 miles or 40 segments
I think the confusing sentence in T&C is this:-
Only bookings made after member's status has been upgraded reflect member's new status.
I think this means that it may be necessary to reenter the dividend miles to get the status updated on the existing bookings. It does not say that the flights have to be booked after the trial starts.

Hi -
I looked through the thread, but did not find an answer to my questions:
1) If I buy Silver and fly 30K, Do I get Chairmans?
2) If my 90-day trial runs from Oct 4, 2011 to Jan 2, 2012, will I get preferred status for all of 2012 if I fly the required number of miles?
3) Does only BIS miles count, or do First/Envoy bonuses also count (i.e., BIS vs PQM)?
Many thanks -

Thank you - Does only BIS miles count or do class of service bonuses for paid First/Envoy also apply?

Why is this program so poorly known within US?
I wanted to take advantage of this for Silver Preferred for next year and I have the needed travel ahead to get the 10 segments required in 90 days.
So, I thought, why not sign up and get it? Little did I think it would be an odyssey through the USAirways call centers that would frustrate me to the point where I will probably never fly them again.
My first trip was this past weekend (4 segments), which would have put me 40% of the way there. I made five phone calls and one in-person visit at the check-in counter trying to find someone that knew ANYTHING about this program. I kept getting transferred from one clueless agent to another. Even though they had the "screen" up about the program, no one wanted to make the effort to figure it out and take my money.
In addition, I was given substantial inaccurate information by one agent, one of whom understood what the offer was, but refused to take my $200 payment, saying that I paid for the promotion AFTER I flew the needed miles/segments. Uh, no... but she could not be convinced otherwise. The counter agent and her supervisor couldn't figure it out and advised me to call the same 800 number that didn't get me anywhere.
I had to start the trip and finished it on Saturday. I know that I could have secured one free first class upgrade on the PHX-DEN leg, so I missed out on that. Calling today, I finally got to someone who cared and then on to her supervisor. After 30 minutes, the sup came back with the bad news that it could not be done retroactively, so my four segments over the weekend would not count if I signed up today. Even though I busted my *ss, trying to get signed up, that didn't seem to matter.
Considering that I was willing to pay $200 and book 10 segments with them by the end of the year, how often can any company find this many ways not to take your money? Especially an airline, where the palm is outstretched for everything these days except for a can of soda.
Thanks for reading my vent. My life will go on without US Airways.

Just curious ...did they give you the general resv 800 428 4322 #, or the 800 428 1775 (apparently dedicated) number provided on the US website?

The 1775 number is the one that I used. It is not dedicated to the program and rings into the general reservations phone bank.

Also, it's important that I be able to use some of the Silver benefits (like priority security line and priority boarding) given timing my flights after work on various days. So I want some certainty that I'll be able to use these Silver benefits for flights booked before I start the trial but flown during the trial period.

Although it has been a while, my experience was that reservations made prior to the trial did count (flying after the start of the trial of course). I did err to the side of caution, however, and did call CS to verify this. Whether the CS agent did something to make it so I don't know. I would suggest a call though to be sure it applies in your case.

Trial Preferred Program - anyone experienced it?
Hi, i just started a new job and am now traveling almost every week. No Elite status - starting ground up. Found USAIR's trial program - $200.00 silver, fly XX miles or 10 segments by end of year, and get Silver next year. I did that - already. about to get 18th segment tomorrow, and 4 more next week for 22 and probably another 8 more by end of year. 30 seg's. So they had an option for $400.00 Gold Preferred - I did not have the extra $200.00 so I did not try it - do you think I can get the $200.00 diff and qualify gold? Any other tips? I will hit the gold threshold for certain (in the trial anyway).
Anyways - looking for feedback on this program if any of you guys have used it and other tips for gaining elite status.
