They said in the call that N194UA was going back to the desert and that they're taking delivery of two 739s. They didn't say those 737s were replacing the 747...

Not sure what call you heard from, but according to UA timetable, once the 744 on ORD-SFO-ORD discontinue, those flights actually went back to a 777 like it used to be in the past, there are no 739 showed up at those flights.

Besides, N194UA going back to the desert also doesn't make sense, as UA actually send this plane to PUS for D-check ? before taking back into service.

Wasn't the plan to lease it somewhere? Was it specifically stated that it was going back to the desert or just that they were pulling it from (UA) service?

Just removing it from service.

But it would seem logical to send it to VCV, GYR or one of the other mothballing facilities, rather then keep it in the system.

You can clearly see one 747 retired and 2 737-900 added.

Yes, it does not say that they are replacements, so we won't likely be seeing 739s on the SFO-ORD route.

Read my post again, I said it's not going to the desert (which it isn't). I did not say it is not being retired. It is being retired from the UA fleet but it is not heading to the desert.

It's probably another one of the holiday wet leases. UA has been doing them for the past couple years for Fiji Air or something like that.

This bird is back servicing #664 SFO - ORD again. Returning after several weeks after the new 747 configuration. Onboard right now upstairs.

I'm on your flight! Downstairs in 1J. Hope this battery issue doesn't turn into a major delay . Got to say, the new United First sure beats this old thing.

I was looking at a number of possible itineraries in early December today (trying to keep 1K for next year) and I'm quite sure that at least one of them showed 664 as a 763. I was surprised; maybe it was just the one day. Quite sure I didn't imagine it!
