Is the inability to rebook online because of the fact that the ticket is over a year old? Would I have any restrictions on the ability to rebook?

I had similar issues when trying to do a second rebooking (after having flown the outbound I cancelled the return, and tried to rebook later) - the website kept erroring out after showing me options for rebooking. In my case the ticket was quite young (bought 2 months before, modified 1 month before). I had to call (and they were quite happy to change). Hope this helps!

I can finally select RT search from the main page without error.

Still not here - driving me batty. Seems to work better when not logged in, sometimes works when logged it.

Any tricks to get this complicated function of booking a basic round-trip ticket to work on the oh-so-friendly United.COM?????

Select one-way and then change it to roundtrip on the search page. That was the workaround for me.

Cheaper flights may be available on united.com

When booking flights on united.com, they show what *seems* to be the cheapest price for the day you asked for, plus for two days before and after.

I've found that these prices are, in fact, *not* necessarily the cheapest available. (See Screenshot) I was surprised to find a cheaper flight when I played around with the sorting on a recent one-way booking.

Is it a known fact that united.com makes it appear more expensive than necessary? And why would they do that? Or is it a bug?

It's a known fact that united.com has many deficiencies (to be polite). Never attribute to malice that which can easily be explained by incompetence.

(Though now that I've used WestJet's site, united.com doesn't seem so bad...)

The award calendar has the same issue. The calendar will show a day with standard awards only but upon loading that day there will be a saver award.

I've seen this too on occasion. Note that the flight you show as cheaper is operated by AC, and in my situation I saw the exact same thing - not sure why the summary of cheapest prices above either sometimes are always ignores partner flights that might be lower.

On the other hand, I've noticed on the app, sometimes that same summary above doesn't match the very small print at the bottom of the screen - where it says flights from as low as $x - I've see the lower area have a different number - maybe the same bug in the table where it's not incorporating partner flights above, but is below. Then again, there are times when I can't find the fare shown in one or the other place.

The sorting/filtering is another huge issue - often when, say, filtering out certain flights - say filtering for flights only between certain times, or removing two-stop options, also makes other options within the parameters disappear as well, and the only way to get them to show again is to completely go back and run the search again.

Interesting. But it is not "always". On other days, the cheapest price shown in the left top bar is actually for AC-operated flights.

Upgrading online issues

Flying IAH-AMS next week and the redeem upgrade fare was showing an offer of approximately $500 (no miles confirmed seat). Decided to go ahead and pull the trigger. The website showed an error and now the reservation shows me in Business (P-fare) but a message saying "A modification has been made to your itinerary. Please contact United Reservations to have your ticket reissued." has appeared. Called the premier desk and was quoted a fare difference of $670+, told them to leave it be for now.

Any suggestions?

This has been an ongoing problem. See lengthy discussion here: Bait & Switch Online Upgrade Offers.

Suggest you insist they honor the quoted price, and file a DOT complaint if they won't.

As a follow up, I called back and got an awesome agent out of Chicago who just took care of it. Receipt shows a P-fare and seat is selected.

Had an interesting ticket purchase today. Have to go to SFO on Wednesday for a quick dinner meeting and was looking at flights - and two of my four segments booked into "C" class domestically (instead of A or P which it usually does) - and these are two cabin planes (739/A320). Have never seen a "C" fare domestically - but I don't fly that much domestically so perhaps it's more common than I thought...

Attempted to change a flight today. Got through the entire change process then got an error claiming that for my security I'd been logged out after 20 minutes of inactivity (which had not occurred). Logged out, relogged in, same error. Had to call in to make the change.

The change process is just generally broken; I've given up and just book a new ticket and cancel the original... I.e. on a simple one segment, one way EWR-CLE last week, if I tried just changing the date it was pushing either a $300 upfare to keep the ticket flexible/refundable, or a $200 refund and downfare to an nonrefundable fare depending on what search criteria I tried.

Just booked a new ticket on the flight I wanted as a flex/refundable at exactly the same price as the original ticket and canceled/refunded the other. I suppose I could have called, but it's just not worth the time.

Though I suppose this probably won't work as well on penalty fares...

Agreed. It worked pre-merger, then broke after the merger, then worked again, and is now broken nearly all the time for nearly all purposes.

As an added bonus, the "refund" function is now also mostly broken. You can cancel tickets online, but good luck making a successful refund request.
