I got the same error message after clicking purchase. So I kept doing it until I got my reservation confirmed page.

HOWEVER, to my surprise when I woke up this morning I have 4 confirmed reservations. And my Amex has been charged for all of it. United is such a pain to cancel!!! You either have to call in 10min+ to get a refund or online where you have to cancel the reservation and then go to the refund page and put in your e-ticket.

If they've been purchased with your MP# in the reservation or if you have the PNR/Confirmation number (6 characters) it's really easy to cancel if you're in the first 24 hours or if you've booked a flexible/refundable ticket... Just view the reservation, click cancel, make a selection (refund to original FOP or keep value on the PNR for future travel [I can think of few reasons why anyone would want to do that]), click confirm, and you're done.

I cancel/refund tickets on a regular basis [a large part of the reason 90% of my tickets are purchased refundable] and it's always been painless to get them refunded via the website.

That of course doesn't excuse the pathetic and embarrassing state of what is supposedly one of the most trafficked ecommerce sites on the web.

Just tried to search IAD/HKG in Business for several dates but was told "no flights meet my search criteria." This was a very basic search-no special criteria other than class of service.

Just a rudimentary united.com booking observation (YMMV):

1) Error page happens more often when selecting ROUND TRIP from RESERVATIONS/BOOK A FLIGHT/ROUND TRIP, i.e. https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fli...ncedsearch/rev

2) Error page happens less when selecting ONEWAY (still able to search for RETURN): https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fli...ght/oneway/rev

Pleased I have my travels already booked through June/July. I sure hope they have fixed this fiasco by then......probably not though. :td:

Here is a new one. Was offered a buy-up at booking to upgrade to first and it tells me to enter a credit card below, but there was no fields to enter one? Called in to reservations and they wanted almost $400 to upgrade. http://i.imgur.com/IhK3FLF.jpg

Alas, the same dreaded message I usually get when searching for multi-city award tickets:

http://s24.postimg.cc/xcpppi9ad/image.jpg

I can search for the segments individually but I would like to get that entire award priced without calling UA and put on hold for 1/2 hr. Not to mention, I don't want to pay the booking fee by phone.
Any tips?

I had a phone agent tell me that I was "doing it wrong" on the site since I was getting an error message. I can never stand when I know more about a product than the CSA I'm speaking with, but this really frustrated me. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, DL got several thousand $ of my business because I needed to book quickly and UA wouldn't allow me to check or book flights on their website. For this booking, however, UA was my only real option out of EWR. Couldn't book on their site- even the one-way work around wasn't happening- so I called the premiere line for help. Her "computer was slow" after informing me how it was my error on the website, and then proceeded to tell me that she was showing no availability on the flight I was requesting. I'm UA Platinum, this is a flight in 2 months, and it's on a 767....

This exact same thing happened to me over the week (though only 1 duplicate). It was a $3,700 fare though and UA tried to balk on cancelling the duplicate. I hate this airline.

And here's a new one... I wanted to see if a seat in the exit row had miraculously opened up for my flight this morning and instead of the usual seats/amenities/standby tabs at the bottom of the mostly useless flight status widget it's telling me since the flight is "not operated by United" (though technically accurate that's never stopped them before for UAEX partners) "Additional status information is unavailable"

Spoiler: Clicking the "On Schedule" link gets you to the old style flight status where everything is available...

Had to book two one ways yesterday, one for six people, one for four. Tried multiple times but United.com error'd out even after deleting all cookies and history in chrome, tried explorer, same deal. Finally, I switched computers, used Firefox, said a short prayer, and finally got both completed. Don't mind calling to book for one or two people, but no way was I calling in for six.

Simple non stop routing, DEN-MCO...

Has anyone able to do multi-city award bookings online involving more than 2 segments? I don't think the UA site allows you do that.

sogboulder Apr 11, 2016 2:33 pm

Well, they've already lost two trips from me (at least my unsuccessful reservation attempts didn't result in phantom bookings that I had to cancel). Are they actually working now?

I have, but not recently. It was the same broken site, but I booked back in mid January. It's a 7 leg award booking on multiple carriers with a stopover. Not only did it correctly price the ticket, I booked it (almost) without a hitch. The only problem I ran into was phantom availability showing for LX, and whenever I'd change anything it would have me start over with selecting flights, and the first two legs would stop showing up (so I'd have to do a whole new search just to get them to show up)

At least it priced correctly, and I didn't get any "We can't do this, call it in" type of error messages!

I did this successfully for a five leg ticket last week. Though it was giving me issues around quoting outrageous coach fare class rates, it did eventually work and get me booked into lowest fare bucket available for each flight even though it initially was quoting me B+ for all of them.

Were those award bookings?
