When you click on the upgrade button when viewing your reservation what does it give you for options?

You could use either a GPU or miles and cash - or if you are hoping for a free upgrade they are rare but do happen....

If J is oversold you'll be first in line for an op-up. If ON is available you can upgrade with 20k miles (no cash needed if you are indeed booked into C) or a GPU. Not sure about your chances if J is not sold-out... But, it can never hurt to ask at the gate since the worst they can say is no.

Can anyone provide some insight here?

In September I am Flying PHX-IAH-EWR-ATH

I purchased Economy (K) and did a mileage plus update (20k pts +$550) for myself and one other person.

Neither of us have any UA status.

The PHX-IAH segment upgraded to first, other two segments are waitlisted.

Once flights are waitlisted, there is priority clearing process. Without getting in to the details -- any elite using miles or upgrade instruments will be ahead of you. So until all of those elites have been cleared (regardless of when they request), you will remain waitlisted. Not impossible for a non-elite to clear, but many others will clear first.

As of yesterday there were 4 seats left, and after this morning 3 are gone, so i assume GS were upgraded. I can't confirm though since the handy tool that was used to view upgrade lists in advance has been taken down.
What are my chances of this clearing tomorrow morning?
You should be able to look now at UAL.com, but I'd say your chances are close to nil with one seat left

Um, if non elite, hub to hub chance is ZERO. I say this as someone who flew this route several times in coach as 1K. NEVER upgraded on this route. Even with pmCO, with FAR fewer elites.

TATL, I'd say that looks pretty good. And that's the one you really care about.

Little bit more then two weeks away, Tuesday after Memorial Day, 17 seats left in F. I'm a Gold. Do you think there is any chance of a comp upgrade?

They are offering 20k miles and 250.00 to UG. THey are not offering RPU upgrades.

Should I just bite the bullet and go for the miles and co pay. Do they offer buy ups at check in usually if there are seats available.

You won't get a complimentary upgrade unless Y is oversold. That said, you should definitely be able to apply an RPU - would call the hotline if it is saying it is not available. If R>0, then I would definitely figure out a way to get an instrument upgrade (RPU or miles + copay) stat.

ETA: I realize that the question was probably about a 3-class bird on the route and not the normal Y-->BF upgrade...so you can disregard everything

Question re. SFO-EWR upgrade (RPU) chances for 1k (have not flown this route in a little while).

The 777 3-class on 5/18 is showing J9C9D9Z0P0, seat map shows 3 empty seats (I know not always accurate) but likely the F seats are blocked and do not show on the seat map ? ? A later 757 is J6C6D6Z6ZN6P3PN3 with 6 empty seats.

Which one do you think has a better chance for UG ? The 777 has more seats but for the 757, the GS UGs have probably already cleared.

Those fare classes for the 772 (UA233) are wrong. It's J2 JN2 C2 D2 Z2 ZN2 P2 PN0. That's very low odds of clearing.

Your best odds are the two late afternoon flights (UA213 and UA1456). Those might actually clear.

Sorry, I had the wrong date - it is 5/18. What do you think of the chances on 5/18 for SFO-EWR?

The 777 3-class is still J9C9D9Z0P0, seat map shows 3 empty seats (I know not always accurate) but likely the F seats are blocked and do not show on the seat map ? ?

A later 757 is now J6C6D6Z6ZN6P3PN2 with 6 empty seats. The 777 has more seats but for the 757, the GS UGs have probably already cleared (with PN2).

Six of one, half dozen of the other. You're right, the 772 has more premium cabin seats available. OTOH, PN2 is a good indicator for R availability (though PN9 would be much better).

Personally, I would probably pay attention to RM's prediction, and they're saying UA will sell all the seats on the 772 as D fares or higher.

And watch for the buy-up, because there's a reasonable chance there will be no more non-GS upgrades on either flight.

Thanks. How do I watch for the buy-up? Is my assumption correct that since there is PN2 inventory, all the GS have already cleared?

Check your reservation, before and after check-in. After check-in, buy-up offers appear under "travel options" on the App.

If it's been PN2 for more than a couple of hours then yes, reasonably safe to assume no GS on the waitlist.

Where will the buy-ups appear before check-in? Under "redeem upgrade" ? Right now, UA wants over $1300 for buy-up under redeem upgrades (if I am looking in the right place) ?

Also, is there any way to looking on the mobile site for the load more than 3 days out? Changing the date in the url does not work any more
