Miles + Copay applied at booking mid-march with no R space available. Been checking R space regularly. Cleared this morning (automatically) exactly 30 days out. Flight now shows R7 RN7. Been P9 PN9 R0 RN0 for weeks.

So very confused by this situation. I am booked on flights in July SAN-LAX-PVG-LAX-SAN. V class and requested upgrades using GPUs. Used the united.com website and requested tickets that were eligible for upgrades and, with the exception of SAN-LAX, each leg is waitlisted. That seemed normal to me as only a few R class seats are released at a time, so booked the flights. There is no one, and I mean no one in BF, and there are only two other Y seats sold on the LAX-PVG-LAX flights. I have never before experienced that no R class was available when no seats have been sold. Is this normal? I am used to not getting my GPUs, but thought it was because the R class seats had been allocated, not because they were never allocated. Thank you for any insight that can be provided.
Glad the LAX-PVG leg cleared as I will be making 1MM status on that flight. :-D

United has scheduled a 777-200 ~5PM from IAD -> LAX daily. Being 1K, should I use a RPU on this flight if I plan to take a Friday afternoon (545pm departure) to secure an upgrade? Or are my chances of being upgraded pretty solid.

Looking at this Friday's flights as a guide, there are 7 business and 2 first seats available. I would guess using a RPU is advisable. There may be other instruments and mileage uses waiting, last minute buyers, etc. GSs and 1Ks may not have been cleared, yet, either. If your flight is much less densely-populated on the Monday prior to your flight, you can move back to coach (assuming same fare class is available). This flight is very good use of a RPU. I wouldn't even chance a CPU.

Hi all. New to all of this and was hoping for some advice. I am thinking of flying BOS-ORD-PVG in early August and my dad said I could use his GPUs to try for a business class upgrade. (Dad has status but I don't.)
Buying a W fare costs only $50 more, but I'm wondering whether chances of the GPU clearing are so low that it would not be worth spending even that to join the upgrade waitlist.
BOS-ORD: F9 A9 JN9 C9 D9 Z9 ZN9 P1 PN0 R0 RN0 IN0 I0 Y9 YN9 B9 M9 E9 U9 H9 HN9 Q9 V9 W9 S9 T0 L0 K0 G0 N0 XN0 X0
ORD-PVG: F9 FN9 A9 ON9 O0 J9 JN9 C9 D9 Z9 ZN9 P1 PN0 R0 RN0 IN0 I0 Y9 YN9 B9 M9 E9 U9 H9 HN9 Q9 V9 W9 S9 T0 L0 K0 G0 N0 XN0 X0
Any chance for the GPU upgrade or am I better off saving the $50?

Definitely use a RPU. I don't believe a CPU is likely on this flight based on past experiences with it; I've seen the C cabin nearly full from paid tickets several times in the past, with the upgrade list 50+ deep.

On the one hand, that's a lot of lift for EWR-MAD.
OTOH, it's a Friday. During the summer.

Flying 1805 IAH-LGA Thursday 7:10am, have an RPU applied.
As of yesterday there were 4 seats left, and after this morning 3 are gone, so i assume GS were upgraded. I can't confirm though since the handy tool that was used to view upgrade lists in advance has been taken down.
What are my chances of this clearing tomorrow morning? I want to say the chances of any other 1K's using instruments on this route will be low, so I should be the highest 1K (right?).
Thanks for the help!
