MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

I took the easy way out and used the shower in the A concourse United Club. Unfortunately, with the recent remodel, they removed the shower. So only option now is to wait it out in C.

I haven't been to EWR in at least 5 years, but is it true that most UA international arrivals now come into B? I was doing some flight searches for the past few days and almost all the Europe/Asia flights were arriving at B gates. Is the main issue gate shortage at C, or do they just staff the C FIS for limited hours now?

Fr most it's due to a shortage of FIS-connected gates at C. For very late arrivals it's because the C FIS facility closes at some point.

MCT in EWR AC to UA Domestic

Haven't been through EWR too often, but I'm feeling nervous about a booked itinerary from AC which I believe lands in terminal A to a ps flight which departs from terminal C. 1h05m. connection time on a Friday night. Anyone with experience on this? Hopefully they roll out the MB tarmac transfer for a GS member but if they don't, is this a realistic connection to make?

On one ticket? I'm bad at reading MCT exceptions but that doesn't even seem legal..

Either way, a very tight connection. If memory serves AC comes into a different pier of terminal A so you have to re-clear security at C. Friday night is pretty quiet from a security standpoint but that's a run-the-whole-way sort of connection.

It looks like all AC flights to EWR are from pre-clearance airports except for Quebec City (YQB). If you're coming from YQB, there's no way you'll make it; if not, it still seems extremely risky, as findark pointed out. I interpret that chart as the 1:30 for D-D applying, as I can't think of any other reason they'd file an AC-UA D-D exception.

Correct; AC shares the gates in the first A pier with Southwest, not the A pier with the United shuttle bus.

You will have to exit security, and either take the AirTrain to terminal C (hopefully you have Pre-Check or Nexus, as there is a dedicated PreCheck entry there), or re-enter the other A pier (no pre-check, but you may be given a special card to keep shoes on) and take the shuttle bus.

Honestly... it doesn't sound too bad, if you run. My employer's TA keeps giving me 40-minute connections between my YOW-EWR flight, and I've only missed one once (although strangely my bags made it).

As mentioned above, you'll land as a domestic arrival in the US, unless you use an obscure airport without a US pre-clearance area.

Just make sure if you bring a carry-on that the plane has the right bins for it, as if not and you gate check, then it's a snowball's chance in hell

Hi. I have upcoming connections through EWR and am wondering if I have enough time...

ARRIVAL FLIGHTS:
- I'm arriving from Quebec on UA4185 (arriving in C3)
- then fly out to Glasgow on UA161/LH7646 (departing C1).
- layover is 1:45.

Is that enough time?
After clearing customs/immigration is it best to re-enter via C3 or head over to C1 then re-enter?

RETURN FLIGHTS:
- UA162/LH7647 (arr. B or C)
- then UA4233 to Quebec from A.
- layover is 2:20.

Will the airtrain be best to transit between terminals? My thanks in advance for your help.

ARRIVAL FLIGHTS:

- then fly out to Glasgow on UA161/LH7646 (departing C1).
- layover is 1:45.

Is that enough time?
After clearing customs/immigration is it best to re-enter via C3 or head over to C1 then re-enter? ....
You will clear USA customs and immigration at YQB. So at EWR, this is be an easy connection 1:45 is plenty.
No PreClearance at YQB - the one major Canadian airport exception

Yes the AirTrain is the best way to change terminals when outside of security.

Do you have Global Entry or NEXUS?
Will you have bags?

2:20 is probably OK and has some some safety time -- would allow for a small delay or long immigration lines.

There's no pre-clearance at YQB. It was selected as part of the March 2016 expansion, but, AFAIK, they haven't opened -- or even planned -- any of the new facilities yet.

Thanks for your replies.

- I don't have Global Entry/NEXUS
- One checked bag
- fly in on a Friday night (19:30)
- return transit is Monday late morning (11:30)

Either way, a very tight connection. If memory serves AC comes into a different pier of terminal A so you have to re-clear security at C. Friday night is pretty quiet from a security standpoint but that's a run-the-whole-way sort of connection.
Hope security is good. It doesn't seem legal to me neither (I didn't know you needed 90 mins from AC-UA), but the GS desk ticketed it so hopefully they'll have something figured out.

I interpret that chart as the 1:30 for D-D applying, as I can't think of any other reason they'd file an AC-UA D-D exception.
This is CYYZ to EWR so I will definitely be pre cleared thankfully.

If a tarmac transfer doesn't happen, any advice if I should try to clear security from pier B and take the bus to terminal C or should I go the AirTrain route and try to clear security in Terminal C?

The GS lobby in C should be able to take care of you, especially if you have Pre you should be through very quickly.
