MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

well to make things more fun I would be coming in with lufthansa , without going into the details I was thinking of changing my flight plans without having to shell the 500 dollars or so this would probably cost

so if the scenario is , I end up in EWR with my bags its doable (its also possible I misconnect here but if I dont have my bags thats an entire diff situation as I am sure its not that easy as to say "hey guys give me my red bag" )

if I end up with my bags as you guys think I will , then.........I am good to go

Yes, you will have bags in hand at EWR after clearing Customs, assuming they aren't lost/delayed en route.

Baggage recheck for connections is in both B and C. S, even if the passenger(s) need to change terminals the checked bags can be re-checked right after departing the customs hall/

EWR United Clubs - Terminal C - central security?

Hello,

I think EWR terminal C checkpoints might have changed recently. I recall each of the three piers for terminal C having their own security checkpoint which could leave you without access to the United Clubs.

Does C have centralized security now so I can access any of the United Clubs if I am flying out of the one pier with no club?

Thanks

Edit - I just realized there are 3 clubs now for C and I might have been thinking of terminal A being de-centralized.

Terminal A is quite separate - reachable airside by a transfer bus from Terminal C.
There's a newly-renovated lounge in A.
All the lounges in C are accessible once through security.

Can someone help me with an estimated

curb to gate time estimate

for a weekday international (CDG) departure at 6pm?

I think I need to drop at Terminal C between doors 2/3, use the dedicated Polaris/1k check in line. Use Polaris or TSA pre line-jumping powers (but but still no Clear at EWR?). And get to gate before 5:30 gate closure for a 6pm departure.

Is 45 minutes, so being at the curb at 4:45pm, enough time to make that in general?

Thanks for any help.

Few things count against you:
  1. The Pre line at EWR can get bad -- I waited 20-25 min for a 7pm PS recently
  2. You can get a faraway gate at EWR that adds ~10 min even at a fast clip to your gate walk
  3. Do you have bags? In which case you have to factor in an additional ~10 min

I'd be okay with showing up 1:15 before a flight, but it's a little daring if (say) the road to C backs up and your car has to wait an additional 10 mins. Your call.

Forgive me if this has already been asked...this thread is a behemoth.

I'm contemplating a UA to UA, international to international connection through EWR. Will I need to claim my checked bag, clear customs, and recheck? I would think not, by virtue of the fact that I'm only transiting the US, but not sure if they're clever enough with bag offloading/routing? I understand that I myself will have to clear inbound immigration.

Also, it would be a two hour connection, booked on separate tickets. Am I asking for trouble, or does this sound doable? Obviously answer to that may depend on the question above.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you will have to claim your bag and take it through customs before you recheck it. Because you have separate tickets, your bag may not be tagged all the way to your final destination, so you would need to check it back in again and meet the bag drop-off deadline for the second itinerary.

Depends on your arrival time, nationality, and whether you have Global Entry. If you don't have Global Entry and have to line up with non-citizens during a busy time, I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you have to meet the bag drop-off time for the second reservation.

Interesting, okay. Under what circumstances would UA not tag the bag all the way through? Both tickets will be on 016 stock.

I do have GE, which would help for sure. Still iffy given the need to reclaim the bag...

I do have GE, which would help for sure. Still iffy given the need to reclaim the bag...
If you have more than 12 or 13 hours between flights or are staying overnight they will not allow you to check it through. There are some other cases as well. I'd suggest asking them to check it all the way through at the origin airport. If both tickets are for UA or *A flights they should generally be able to do this fr you. You will still have to reclaim your bag at EWR in any event but if checked through you should be able to quickly just drop it off again right outside the customs hall.

While I have been told the same, I recently had a very kind UA checking agent manually override the system to "reroute" my luggage so I would not have to collect them on an overnight stay in SFO. The agent said this was only possible because my connecting flight was the first one available to my ultimate destination.

This is the first time I've had an agent do this, and it was a time-intensive process for her. Great customer service which saved me a lot of aggravation.

EWR Transfer Time

Hi more frequent travelers to EWR.

I will be connecting through EWR to SFO (from DUB) on Sep 1st and will have my pre-clearance done in DUB for the USA customs. I have a 1 hour 30 minute connection time and all going to plan the connection will be in the same terminal.

This is my first time in EWR, so what I would like to know is:

- is this enough time to transfer usually? (assuming the inbound flight is on time)

I'm flying with United on a single ticket, in case I miss this connection will it usually be easy to get another connecting flight in the same day or (on your experience) are these generally full on a Friday afternoon?

Thank you.

With pre-clearance you will be do a domestic-domestic connection and 90 minutes with be plenty .

SFO-EWR is a busy route but there are 12-14 non-stops flights a day, nearly every hour and even more connecting flights. Assuming no major irrops, they should be a problem getting a later flight.
