MCT for EWR (2012)

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

Minimum International - Domestic Connection time

Hi
I was wondering if 1:45 would be enough time to connect in EWR if arriving on a flight from London and continuing on a domestic flight

Legally it is enough time as it meets minimum connecting time. But it could be tight. Factors that affect success of actually making the connection
- do you have GlobalEntry? With GE it;s definitely doable.
- are you checking a bag? This can make a 30-minute difference
- US citizen or foreign visitor?
- Time of day? The late LHR flights arrive outside of peak international hours, so probably get shorter lines
- Flight coming into terminal B or C? (you won't know this possibly until just before arrival)

The issue is always what the Plan B is. If this is a connection to BOS which has close to hourly service, it doesn't really matter, UA will just pop you onto the next service. If this is a connection to some place where you are booked onto the last service of the day and your schedule matters to you, a misconnect means a night at a miserable EWR airport hotel and a day of travel the next day.

1:45 in your situation is above MCT, but just at SCT (Sensible Connect Time). What's the next best option?

Like Often1 said, your next destination makes a difference, and think of a plan B.

Few things you can do to improve your chances.

1. Get a LHR-EWR seat as far forward as you can. May make a difference in getting to the immigration line.
2. Upon landing, check you arrival and departure gates using your cell phone on the airplane, so you know exactly what to do after customs. You may not be able to use your phone in customs and immigration halls, so check this in advance if you have a data plan (or even airborne using free United wifi).
3. Do not bring any food, seeds, soil, anything that would cause customs to refer you to agriculture inspection
4. Wear shoes that come off and on easily. It's Murica, you'll need to remove your shoes for TSA. The fact that you did not blow up your LHR-EWR flight is irrelevant to them.

Newark Terminal C to B

Hi, apologies if this has been covered already. I am fairly new to FT and have not yet mastered the search function.

I am departing today from Newark Terminal B (almost didn't even notice that) but would like to check in at Terminal C, get some dinner and maybe use the club in C before transferring to B for my flight. Can I do so without leaving the secure area and then having to clear security again in B? Will I even be allowed through security in Terminal C with a B boarding pass? It is a domestic flight, if that matters.

I want to do this because I hear there isn't much going on in Terminal B, but if anyone knows that to be false, that would be great information to have.

There's a shuttle that you can take from Terminal C to Terminal B post-security. Just allow yourself ample time to get between the two.

Is there a pattern to whether your INTL flight arrival is in Terminal C or Terminal B? I've had some many INTL arrivals in B, I started to assume C did not have immigration.

The Immigration facility in C is only open during peak times. During slower times of day they close the C facility and staff only the B facility.

Global Services + TSA Pre departing EWR terminal A this afternoon (Saturday). Should I go through GS security entrance in terminal C, followed by airside shuttle to A? Or just do terminal A security?

EWR Customs

I have a friend flying into EWR from TLV and connecting to PBI.
Her flight arrives at 4:35 am and her next flight leaves at 7:00 am.

She heard that customs doesn't open until 6 am. Is that true?

If it's Customs not opening she will have little to worry about as Customs is generally quick. If it's Immigration not opening, then she's in trouble with that connection.
