MCT for EWR (2012)

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

How early should I arrive at Newark for EWR-SEA-ICN?

Hi, I have the following itinerary on Tue, Jan 09, 2018.

UA537 EWR (7:35 AM) to SEA (10:50 AM)
OZ271 SEA (12:50 PM) to ICN (INCHEON, 6:00 PM, 10JAN)

I wonder how early should I arrive at EWR, considering I have a luggage to check in. Will the check-in procedure for the first segment be counted as an international flight, or a domestic flight?
And I guess the transfer at SEA will happen inside the security check area, i.e. I don't have to go out of the gate and come back in through the security. am I correct?

Yes, I agree; this got moved to the wrong thread.

Your EWR checkin will be treated as a domestic flight, not an international flight.

All gates at SEA are connected airside (inside security), so you shouldn’t have any problems getting from your inbound gate to the OZ outbound gate. You may need to take an underground train — I forget where OZ operates — but it runs frequently and only takes a couple of minutes.

You bags should be checked thru to ICN and you will not need to reclear security again.
UA uses Concourse A, OZ uses the nearby South Terminal (S Gates) -- they are connected airside but you will need to use the south train to get the S gates

Ok, so here is the issue. I have a connection at EWR from OSL-EWR on SAS to EWR-IAD on UA. As it turns out (my fault, completely spaced it) - connection time is only 1hr34min officially. Moreover, SK907 appears to be habitually late, arriving closer to 2pm.
I know EWR well enough - there is no practical way to make a 1hr connection intl-domestic from terminal B to terminal C.

So, I am wondering if if I can argue to SAS that this is not a legal connection, perhaps.

Can anyone point me in the direction of official MCT for intl-domestic between different *A carriers at EWR?

What are the chances of arguing that since SK is always late, the actual connection is under MCT? Probably a question for SK forum.

If I were flying alone - wouldn't care. In fact, if I they get me to destination more than 3 hours late, that should be grounds for EU261 compensation

I could use some cash. But seeing as this is a family trip, and availability of multiple seats on the same flight on the same day with UA is not certain, fixing this ahead of time would be great.

I wonder if UA can rebook us on Amtrak in this case?

Yeah, missing a middle-of-the-day NYC-WAS flight is usually not a huge deal. Tons and tons of alternatives.

3 more flights after ours, all UX, and quite solidly booked as of today. Not sure what our chances of being reaccommodated would be.

Luckily, in reviewing emails from SAS I realized that about 2 months ago there has been a schedule change. SAS did not send an explicit notification of the change, they just reissued tickets (attached as pdf files) that looked almost identical to the original. UA flight from EWR was postponed by 3 minutes

- I found the difference only by chance.

Well, called SAS, and as this is a schedule modification, they changed our tickets to a later flight. Schedule changes are helpful sometimes.

I thought there were skycaps who will load your luggage onto a cart and take it, with you, to one of the checkin counters.
