MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

I looked at the on-time performance of UA 868 and it is horrible.
Any opinions on if a 2 hours 24 minute connection time sufficient?

UA 868 lands in terminal C and UA48 takes off from terminal C too at EWR.
I hope I don't have to go through a security check at EWR.
Transiting within the terminal won't take more than 10 minutes at most. You will not have to go through security again. Personally, I think you are fine, but based on the worrywarts I have seen suggest extremely long time buffers, I am confident someone will recommend that you need to build in more.

You are probably fine. I go CLE-EWR-BOM frequently, and unfortunately that connection is tighter, so I usually opt for the 8 hour layover option and just go chill @ the Lufthansa Lounge.

That said, I think your 2 hour+ connection is safe.

I made an 8-minute (scheduled) connection in EWR yesterday. Gate C81 to C115.

Didn't expect to make it but we were nice and early on the inbound. It ended up being 35 minutes from actual block-in to scheduled departure. They were boarding Group 2 as I arrived at the gate.

As the fine print on the ads say, "Results not typical" LOL

So one more question. Thanks for the replies so far.
My return flight is BOM-FRA-DTW on Lufthansa.
I know Lufthansa allows two bags + 1 hand bag + 1 personal item (laptop bag) to India and back from DTW.

Will I be allowed to bring two bags back? Does anyone know?
Thanks.

Some clarity might help...that sounds like a lot of bags to bring onboard. Are you referring to checked baggage + luggage you can bring with you on the plane without being charged?

Assuming that you have a single, round-trip ticket, per DOT regulations, the United checked baggage allowance governs your entire trip.

Lufthansa is free to give you their allowance instead, since it is higher.

Whether or not they'll do so is probably best asked in their forum. :-)

Today, I called both United and Lufthansa. Both confirmed that since the return flight is operated by Lufthansa, their baggage policy applies.

Will 2.5 hours be enough to connect from YUL to EWR to NRT.

I have been monitoring the daily flights and it seems that we will most likely arrive in terminal A and then have to transfer to terminal C to catch the NRT flight.

I know there is pre-clearance at YUL however I don't know EWR enough to know if I will have to pick up my bags and then go to terminal C check back in and then go through security.

The tickets are all in one booking.
Thanks,

Thanks,
If you are arriving EWR on a United/United Express flight, there is a bus transfer to take you directly to the gate area of Terminal C. 2.5 hours is plenty. You will not need to collect checked baggage nor clear security again.

If you are arriving EWR on any other airline, it will be more difficult. For example, if you are arriving on Air Canada, the transfer bus will not be accessible from that portion of the A gates (the are divided into 3 piers, each with its own security, and not connected airside).

You would need to exit terminal A, take the Air Train to Terminal C, and re-clear security. 2.5 hours still should be enough, but there will not be as much cushion in case of irrops, and it will not be nearly as convenient. I don't think you will need to deal with checked bags in this case either, but I don't use pre-clearance to be sure.

Thanks for the reply and the helpful information.
I am now no longer worried about the outbound flight as I will be arriveing on a united express flight and can take the shuttle bus to C.

My new concern is the return flight.
I again am flying NRT to EWR to YUL however the EWR to YUL will be on an AC Jazz flight which means we will have to go through Immigration and customs? (Do we need to collect our bags and recheck them?) and then take the train to Terminal A and go through security again?

Connection is only 2 hours.

Yes, you need to go through immigration and customs at EWR, no matter which airline operates EWR-YUL. You'll clear immigration and customs (with your bags) at terminal B or C, recheck your bags directly after customs, and then make your way to terminal A for your AC flight. Had you flown that leg on United, the process would have been the same, and you would have to go to terminal A or C, depending on if it had been UA mainline or United Express.

Connection time A to C at EWR

I'm looking to fly ORD-EWR-Maine next month.

Some of the connection times offered on the website are as low as 45 minutes. Is that even possible considering there will almost certainly be a Terminal C to A transfer required (and vice versa for the return)?

I've not connected UAX to Mainline at EWR before but everything I've read and heard is that it's a bit of a logistical nightmare. Is there an airside bus (it looks like yes, but it looks like it makes multiple stops?). I know I can always exit security and take the AirTrain but I can't see any way in heck I'd make it having to clear security again.

I actually typically prefer tight connection times as I hate sitting around and waiting, but this seems borderline impossible.

Although I would opt for a longer connection, 45min is doable if you are familiar with the airport—through experience or research—and there are no delays. Definitely do not exit security and use the airtrain. The logistics are not that bad if you use the shuttle (near C71).

Hi,

Planning a trip here, is 95min enough to connect from domestic to int'l? The other option would involve staying in EWR for 8hrs... not exactly enough to visit the city and come back either.

Both on United flight
