I have been a nexus member since 2006. Still have not received my new card. Whenever I ask someone how to get it sent to me, I'm told to keep waiting. Saw on the website to contact them if you hadn't received the card by March 1, so I called today. They informed me that the date is now March 31 and that I can keep using my existing card.

Unfortunately, on Saturday, I tried driving across the Nexus lane at Pacific Hwy in BC. My (old) card didn't work on the scanners. The agent told me they have upgraded their scanners and the old cards don't work anymore. I got sent inside to secondary processing where they spent over an hour looking at the computer and asking me a million questions about all of my travels. Then they let me proceed as usual. Would have been faster to just wait in the normal lineup (hr long)

I need to drive down again tomorrow, as I have a flight out of Bellingham. Anyone know if the US scanners at Peace Arch still work with the old cards?

When I went through last week, there were notices posted on each kiosk saying you need to present the card at the podium.

I ended up there again today and noticed the notice on two of the kiosks (mind you those two kiosks were broken...). Coming back into Canada no one said a peep about showing the card..

Ah well! Either way it's shorter than the big line ups.

I was told that you must present your Nexus card whether at the airport or crossing by automobile. Also, there is a nex Nexus card that was issued in either mid December or early Januaury and does not look like the old Nexus card at all. Went on line, answered a couple of questions got a confirmation number and the new card was mailed to me.

Re-read what he said. He said he got through the immigration line just fine, but had issues with customs.

NEXUS allows you to fast-track through immigration, but not customs.

What is the difference between immigration and customs? Aren't they all under homeland security?

I believe immigration is the first booth that everyone has to stop at (that doesn't have Nexus), which determines your legalty in entering the country (i.e. entering as a visitor, worker, etc., if you need a visa, do you carry the right visa, etc.). Customs deals with the issues pertaining to goods you are bringing into the country, (i.e. are you declaring items over the limit you are allowed, are you trying to bring fruits/veggies that are not allowed, etc.)

Yes, but different branches. Immigration officers often do double duty.

I had a couple of issues at YUL yesterday but only two associated with NEXUS.
Tired from a day of travel I had a lot of trouble getting my eyes to unfocus enough to see TWO little ovals in the scanner and had to try two machines. Not the fault of NEXUS but it's not as easy as it used to be with only one eye targeted.
Then the fancy kiosk area at YUL with all those glass-walled corridors - they need a SIGN that points to the proper lane and tells you that you need to walk up to the end to get down the escalator. It's NOT obvious where to go.

They also need to have an agent at the connections desk to process people who have NO CHECKED BAGS. A couple of us waited a long time while the agents tagged bags when we could have been on our way with a glance at our Boarding passes.

?--I never go to a connections desk anywhere in the world if I only have carryon and already have my boarding pass.

Interesting - but makes sense. I have never had a problem but my husband always has to try two or three different machines. After I've breezed through and have my receipt I get to wait and watch him do the move right, move left, move forward, move backwards dance!

I'm scheduled for my Nexus interview in a couple of weeks. The information that was provided to me for the interview stated that I should not wear corrective lenses when I have my irises photographed. Will wearing contact lenses affect using the Nexus machines at the airport or does it not matter for scanning purposes?

Don't know about contacts, but I wear glasses, and don't seem to have a problem with scans whether or not I am wearing them. I can't remember whether my original scans were done with or without them.

You will be asked to remove your contact lenses when you get your retina scanned after your interview. You don't need to take them out though when you use the kiosks.

Thanks for the info. That's what I figured; just wanted to make sure.
