I had my info updated today at the Nexus. I was told that I must update all government documentation, including driver's license. Whomever told people they don't have to do so, is wrong she said.

After about a wait of 20 minutes it was all done. I had to go to the check-in booth first and the girl took down my info and my driver's license, added it into the system. She then told me to wait so a Custom's officer could also examine my info and confirm all details. And that was it. A bit of a pain in the butt, it had to be done.

I recently updated both my and my wife's driver's license. I have a change request form that I picked up in in Blaine everytime I renew my TN Visa. I just make a few copies and keep it on file here at the house. On it is indicates I can update my driver's licenses via fax.

In late January I faxed the change request and went online to GOES and noticed both our profiles were updated with the new driver's license expiry dates.

Cheers

Wow, that's pretty impressive.....considering this is the gov't, and its dealing with two.

I was unaware you could fax in DL changes. In fact, it took me a few trips before I was able to do my last one, as I kept arriving/departing when the YYZ office was closed for the day.

Using Nexus on a cross-border bus

I fear the answer is no, but I thought I might check with everyone here....anyone know if there is a way to use Nexus to clear while travelling on a bus across the border? I'm thinking something like a Greyhound bus (as opposed to a tour group or something). I know that I'll have to wait for all the pax to clear and reboard the bus anyway before proceeding onward, but just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this.

Nexus can only be used at land borders by passenger vehicles. If an in person inspection is required, you'll have to clear the old fashioned way. In the case of scheduled bus service (esp. greyhound/quick shuttle) you'll have to get off, with all your luggage, go inside, have your luggage scanned and present yourself in person.

Unless everyone on that bus, including the screaming infant seated behind you, is enrolled in NEXUS, you'll have to go through the old-fashioned way.

Like Derek posted previously, you can expect a lot of inconsistency. In YVR, Nexus MUST physically see your documentation and examine it that it's accurate and not forged. As already mentioned, I had to have my driver's license examined by two different personnel which resulted in a wait of about 20 minutes. When it comes to BC, Border Agents are much more vigalent since there is a lot of illegal drugs and contraband bassing through, even with Nexus card holders.

So if I rent a uhaul and drive it across the border empty, that wouldn't be possible with nexus? A friend of mine is moving to the states and wanted some help. Its easier to rent a uhaul on this side of the border, vs renting in Canada and dropping off in the states.

You have to have your specified vehicle registered with Nexus, including insurance and licensing details, to use it at a crossing. A rented U-Haul would not be eligible for a land crossing using Nexus.

I was told they don't register vehicles anymore. I tried to add one in the last year or so and wasn't able to. I asked at yyz and they said so many people rent/borrow/etc vehicles that it became difficult to keep up, and the card user is responsible for the car, no matter what it is, so it seemed redundant.

I started with an airport Nexus, and have recently been using it at the bridge crossing in Sarnia. I've never registered my vehicle.

We had to register when we applied, but I have never used those vehicles for crossing, always a rental.

Not to pile on, but I too have crossed the Peace Arch and Detroit/Windsor tunnel with both my boss' car and rental vehicles and had no problem.

I signed up about a year ago for NEXUS, and they said car registration was not necessary anymore.

My bad. I was definitely required, at my NEXUS interview in September '08, to provide registration and insurance details for all vehicles that I might anticipate using for crossing.
