When was this.

YOW-YYZ on Tuesday had a convict in cufs at row 29. Metro came to pick him up before anyone else got off. Was with two of his buddies.

Of course, once he was on board, there was no police presence, made me feel great to be in row 28 :)

Just after 10 am yesterday (Thursday). He was wearing a black jacket and jeans, and his hands were zip tied with a black zip tie.

Black goes with everything.

Interesting - I started getting "ED" codes entering the US and had about 3 secondaries in a row before one of the agents mentioned that I was getting pulled in because my DL was expired. When I went to the YYZ Nexus office to update it I was told that the Nexus card should not be linked to my DL.

Related question - I had both my and wife's passports to update those and was told I could not update wife's Nexus with her new passport; she has to show up herself? This despite the Nexus call centre assuring me it was not necessary - amusing  from the Canadian agent when I pointed this out who remarked "they're in California, they don't know anything".

What sort of failing business model (subliminal voice: AC web support) relies on a call centre that can't adequately recreate the primary service?

First time using my Nexus card, and quite unsuccessful.

I tried three times to get it to read my eyes, and it timed out each time. Had to move back, move back, move forward, then move to the right, and timing out. Ended up going to the crew line, where I was given a hard time because I didn't have the street address of the hotel I was at (which was already linked to the boarding pass details etc. Anal).

They did have a challenge capturing my eyes -- it took several attempts. It also took a few practice attempts on the practice machine at YYZ after I was registered.

So can I go back to the YYZ office at any time and ask if I can use the practice machine? It seems odd. Maybe I'm a doofus.

Air Canada is not allowed to give out any information, even what you put into the API form due to Canadian privacy laws.

That is why you need to enter it in on the customs form. Why they ask you online, I have no idea...

yet another fabulous thing about nexus.. Don't have to deal with those stupid questions..

BTW, I do believe its fed to customs as part of the entry requirements, and may be a way to fact check what someone is saying on their form.

Uh, Air Canada collects this info, and supplies it directly to US DHS ..... so you are quite wrong.

That's what he was doing. It was dumb; he wouldn't let me use my phone to call my wife; and so I used my iPod to Google my hotel, and got the address, at which point he told me he already had it. All the while, I was holding up the crew line.

I called the Canadian Nexus office; she said (looking at my photo) that I have heavy set eyes, and that when I try next time, I should hold my lids open. She was very pleasant. Told me I might feel like I look like a goofball but that it works for most people. So I will try that on my return.

Yes you can. They're actually supposed to tell you to use it as many times as you need to until you are comfortable with it. Just say you had trouble the last time and you wanted to try it out again a few times. Nothing wrong with that. The machine sits idle otherwise.

I have heard that this works. They should change the software, but in the meantime, do the Marty Feldman Eyes trick...

InTheAirGuy Apr 18, 2009 8:04 am

I did the Marty Feldman bit on my return yesterday, and it worked!

InTheAirGuy Apr 19, 2009 6:19 pm

I am thrilled to report it worked for me again today.

The odd thing is, I only get one green light, and if I center it on my right eye, whammo goes the camera.

Some people talk about two green dots, and I have not seen them.

I sometimes wonder if I am unbalanced.

I would call and find out what is happening. I'm not clear if you are a new member, or an existing member who is waiting for an old Nexus card to be replaced with a new one. It is the latter category that were taking months to be sent cards - new members seemed to have their cards arrive within 1 - 2 weeks.

I'm not sure how the new cards are being sent, but some reported replacement cards were being sent registered mail, so forwarding wouldn't work. I would imagine they would, at a minimum, have a "do not forward" notation on the envelope.

I got caught in a weird loop. My replacement card was sent to YUL before I relocated (more or less) to YOW. I did update my NEXUS info, and just this week the card arrived in a regular envelope addressed to my YOW address, with the original tracked envelope addressed to YUL stuffed inside.

They're on the way, they're just somewhat slow about it.

Good news - finally got my Nexus card. Took less than 2 weeks as others have expected. Glad I posted here and found out that 2mos was a problem and called..

Called Nexus (re: no card received since my interview on Feb11th). As it turns out there was a glitch in the system that they just noticed when they reviewed my file today, so it is finally getting processed... however, they asked me to log into my Nexus account to change my address (as I have just moved) right away, but alas my account has no 'change address' link! There is no 'Profile' link either, as described in the Nexus FAQ. Argh - what else could go wrong. I left my new address on the local Nexus office voicemail... hope they can change it for me from here...

*Update: looks like they were able to change my address online for me! It appears that the 'change mail-to address' option does not become available until the Nexus application goes through a particular stage - this must have been the glitch because the option is now available to me and my new address has already been input for me. Looking forward to getting my Nexus pass finally, after waiting for almost 3 months now...
