Are you sure you need a specific appointment? I thought all locations took walk-in's (without appointment) for document updates/photocopies of the new docs. I know this is certainly the case in YYZ, I would be surprised that YYC would require one.

That is what the agent relayed over the phone. If you want to update after 8:30, book an appointment. I don't know what would happen if you just walked up . . .

can you contrast the diff between a Nexus and a Sentri pass?
PS I'm beginning to think my GOES issues are related to my network since I can hit the page from my BlackBerry just fine sentri is car only sentri members can be from any nationality, as long as you have proper documentation/visa to live/work/visit the USA and Mexico. I am canadian, and have FM3 visa to work in Mexico, but i sleep in the el paso tx side, not in Mexico. So when I travel, I am crossing daily into the USA from Mexico using the sentri program. I wish I could just use one program, Nexus and that's it... but you can't |

During my interview this morning @ YEG they said no appointment is required for updating information.. Just walk in!
For those who care, my interview was pretty straight forward, quick and efficient. No odd ball questions etc. |
Did you throw out your toll money with the old card?
Nope: "When a NEXUS/Toll patron receives their new card, they will be given instructions to activate their card online via the U.S. Customs and Border Protection GOES website or at a NEXUS Enrollment Center. NFBC Program participants will automatically be re-enrolled in the Toll Program and their current balance will be immediately transferred to their new NEXUS card the first time they use it. Their old account will simultaneously be closed."
Whew. No dumpster diving in my future. |

Thanks YEG instead of YYC
Even though YYC is my usual airport (given that I'm 75+ minutes west up here in the mountains), I couldn't believe when I booked my Nexus interview in mid-Dec 2008 that the earliest interview was on Mar 02.
Discovered a few weeks ago thanks to previous posts here that YEG didn't have the same silly interview delays. Had my successful interview (even though I forgot to include my middle name on the online application) two weeks ago and received my Nexus card today -- exactly two weeks as mentioned during the YEG meeting. YYC seems to have a horrendous US Customs experience with long snaking lines so I'm looking forward to the pleasant Nexus experience on Mar 14 if not sooner. Happy in Canmore! |

Just got my card today. Kind of funny, they didn't use my NEXUS picture, but rather the one taken for Global Entry usage. And my face is distorted because the hologram is right over it.

My new card, received this week, was made on Dec. 11; sadly, it has the old picture that I hate, not the global entry pic I had taken on Dec. 24th. It took the officer several tries to override the old picture, but he insisted cause the Nexus pic is just that bad...

I can confirm that, at YYC, they DO request that updates/etc. be done by appointment and only allow the 30min morning window 5 days/week for emergency dropins. I had my Nexus interview at YYC this past Wednesday and an information sheet given out during my interview states that in writing, which matches what @BlondBomber was told. The dropin window will be increasing to 7days/week soon however. It's true - YYC's Nexus office was extremely busy for a Wednesday afternoon - I ended up getting out of there about 45mins late even though they seemed pretty efficient - sucks when airport parking is $6/30mins...

No Iris Scan
I had my Nexus interview with my family this weekend. Officers (both US and Canadians) were very corteous and friendly. They asked us how we USUALLY crossed the border and we replied that by car. We did not have our irisis scanned but the nexus cards were approved and they are supposed to be mailed to us within the next few days. Will we be able to use those cards at airports?

As you did not have your iris' scanned, you will not be able to use them at the airport. Using the card while flying is different than by driving. When you cross by land, you have the chip in your card scanned to identify you. At the airport, you do not scan your card, but have your iris' scanned to identify you, at machines that look just like the one they have in the office. While you may "usually" cross by car, I presume this does not mean you "always" cross this way. I would suggest you get your iris scanned (once you receive your new card in the mail) so that you can use Nexus when crossing by air. The good news is that you can have your iris' scanned at any airport Nexus office without an appointment (YYC, being the exception, see recent posts on this). Just show up, and tell them that your iris' weren't scanned during your interview. |
