Hopefully they've fixed it by now, but a few months ago the EZ Pass equipment at Whirlpool wasn't working - made a few different trips with two different transponders and no dice. Had to load cash on the card, unfortunately.

Ah, that's not good, but good to know. Thanks.

That's reassuring, thanks for letting me know! I will plan on driving down there this weekend. Hopefully it's a breeze. Was your just a name change as well, or something like, like a job change?

It'll be both a new job and new last name for me.

One other suggestion, avoid lunch hour as the line builds up and fewer staff to deal with it. It will be a shorter wait in my experience.

Hi all. I just changed my last name, and just received my new Canadian passport reflecting my updated name.

Of course, my Nexus card has my previous name, which I will need to update.

I am planning on driving to Niagara Falls/Buffalo and walking in next Saturday. Has anyone does this before??

The earliest appointment is May 2023...and I read on one of the FT threads that walk-ins may work. If so, is this a quick process?

Appointments can only be made for new or renewal NEUXS applications not updates to existing accounts

Noob question, when crossing through nexus lane with passengers (they have nexus card as well), do we all need to scan our cards or just the driver?

Scan all the cards. The number on the red LED display above the reader will count how many cards it's detected.

Although to be fair, when you actually get an accurate count with greater than two cards, it's cause for celebration. Inevitably one or two don't scan for some reason, or the reader doesn't show the accurate number but they get the correct number inside the booth. I've tried every method of scanning them.

I had no problems scanning 4 cards. The vehicle should be stopped at the scanner and you may have to reposition 1 or 2 cards but can be done.

Arrange the cards in a fan pattern which I think was recommended during initial interview. IME that picks up 2 or 3 cards on the 1st try.

Alternatively, 1 card in each hand so you can 2 at a time. Put those aside and scan the other 2.

You may also have to wave the cards around a bit.

The border agents have always said don't worry about it. They often have issues. Obviously try to do it. In a July crossing the machine didn’t register the cards being waved at the machine from my vehicle. The border agent came out and “waved” the car up. Tried to explain and he said, “been having trouble all day”.

New to the forum. Has NEXUS changed the interview requirement, or did I miss an announcement about conditional enrollment?

Data points:
U.S. Citizen w/ Global Entry
First-time NEXUS Application: 5/9/22
NEXUS Conditional Approval: 6/24/22 - Scheduled interview for 9/15/22 (next week)
NEXUS Approval: 9/6/22 (w/o an interview), Expry Date: 11/29/27

Sounds promising, but I'm trying to confirm whether I need to fly to Detroit for the interview next week. As expected, I've been on hold for over an hour with the USCBP (automated message has stated the expected wait time is 56 minutes since the call started). Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Do you have a notification in TTP website with the following passage?

We are pleased to inform you that your U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), NEXUS program membership has been approved. You may use the program as soon as you receive and activate your new NEXUS card.
If so you should keep an eye in the email for a NEXUS card in 2-3 weeks (assuming you are in US) and activate it.

It would appear CBP/CBSA is re-examining which conditional applications can be fully approved without an interview as someone else posted a couple of days ago of having a Detroit appointment cancelled because they were fully approved.

Thanks for the response. It does not. However, there is an info box under "Program Memberships" and above the Green "Approved" NEXUS Membership that states "You need your membership card in order to receive NEXUS benefits when entering Canada or the United States . . ." Update: I finally reached someone with CBP and they informed me of a couple of things. First, he stated that my card has been mailed and the system shows that my Detroit appointment is cancelled. Second, he added that they weren't sure how/why I was approved, but that they've received calls about similar situations (goes to your point about re-examining conditional apps). Finally, he added that of those approvals without an interview, some were having issues activating their cards.

I think someone else posted above a similar situation. Common denominator seemed to be that they were already a Global Entry member. For what it's worth during a family member's recent interview (no Nexus, no GE beforehand) they weren't interviewed by the Canadian side like earlier, only by the US side. The Canadian guy did come out and answer any questions about the program, but nothing specific to the individual like before (' Why do you normally visit Canada?' Type of questions).
