Booking Appointment

Anyone else unable to book an appointment?
We are at the “Schedule Interview” stage, but when we click the button, it takes us to a screen that says “Loading…” and then nothing ever happens.
been that way for two months. Multiple computers, browsers, phones, nothing seems to be able to actually pull up the scheduler.

I suppose I look just as ashy as the sleeve now after six years :(

My sleeve had a different colour lining than last time; the previous one was a copper colour on the inside, but this one is silvery. Also, it might just be my imagination, but the new card seems a bit flimsier than the previous one.

We both must have good imaginations, or something. Maybe it was the power of suggestion, but when our new cards came I thought they were a bit flimsier also. Held the old and new ones up together and was sure the new ones were slightly thinner. Today I got out my calipers and measured. Exactly the same. Wuuut? :p

Is there any issue applying for Nexus as a recently naturalized Canadian citizen that just got his first Canadian passport (and hadn’t even used the passport yet) ?

None at all. Weirdly in the interview they might ask you for your naturalization certificate so have that handy

Hey everyone,

I'm taking my wife and kids to LA on Nov 6. Flying out of YYZ T1. Both my kids, wife, and I have valid NEXUS cards. My kids are ages 6 and 4, and the back of their NEXUS cards has no iris sticker.

This question is regarding my kids. This is their first time heading to the States by air. Will their cards work properly on the GE machines at T1 or will the machine prompt me to take my kids to see GE agents? My wife and I flew to the States numerous times this year, so I know for certain ours will work fine on the machine.

Any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated. I don't want to cause bottlenecks to other GE/NEXUS holders on the lines as going through security is already frustrating enough.

Whether the machines will work for your kids is anyone's guess - they can be fickle and sometimes don't even work for adults who they previously worked for. Either way, if you all have Nexus cards, you will all have to go see an agent anyway after getting a receipt from the machine (but usually there is an agent/line dedicated to the Nexus/GE) and will quickly get waved through after taking a picture and examining passports etc. if the machine didn't give you a receipt and tells you to see an agent.

Can Canadian Nexus members use global entry at US airports? (Not talking about pre clearance airports in Canada)

Yes. All Nexus members receive all Global Entry benefits. So your Known Traveler Number/Trusted Traveler number that you use on boarding passes, all Global Entry kiosks and Nexus/Sentri/Global Entry land/air/sea points of entry can all be used by Nexus members with no difference compared to GE members.

Entry into US with Nexus

For Canadian citizens, my understanding is that as a Nexus member doing pre-clearance at a Canadian airport before flying to the US, you usually only need to use the GE kiosk, instead of talking to a CBP officer.
What kind of information is asked by the GE kiosk - do you have to declare the purpose of the visit and the exact length ? Any other information ? TIA

You use the kiosk first and then you must take the printed receipt and see a CBP officer, at least at YVR. There is a line leading from the GE kiosks separate from the general line and usually not much of a wait, if any. The kiosk asks how you are entering (B1, B2 etc). So yes, you do still need to see a CBP officer, who always asks me how long I am staying and sometimes the purpose of my trip and anything to declare.

Similar at YYZ.

The kiosk questions are more or less what you had to fill out on the cards in the old days. Pretty sure it asks you purpose of trip and certainly where you are staying. You have to indicate if you are declaring anything such as food, money, etc. if yes to any of the questions you get a circle on your receipt and go to a different queue within the Nexus area. What’s bizarre is the queues are side by side and in most instances the same border officers take people from both queues. Generally quick, unless you are selected for secondary.

used to be the case several years ago…not anymore. Overall, process is better now with the new kiosks (not sure if they’re absolutely everywhere yet, but definitely they are at YYZ and YVR), though but if a PITA with younger kids if you are traveling with them, IME (that goes for inbound with Nexus, as well).

don’t even need your passport for the kiosk. Kiosk will now just take your photo and recognize you that way, then it either just tells you to proceed (paperless version….I think YYZ has them but can’t recall what is where anymore) or spits out a receipt…no questions on kiosk. Then you see the CBP officer in a separate, GE only line. You are supposed to declare anything verbally to the CBP officer. They may or may not ask a few questions and that’s it. Assuming no line (we didn’t have it last time), it’s literally a couple of minutes for the whole process.

I will note the kiosk is a bit of a PITA with kids - both times we’ve used the photo kiosks we haven’t been able to get it to capture our 4yo (you can adjust the camera, I later found out, to help). Our last YYZ departure, there was no one in line - the GE officer sent us to the MPC officer (also no line) to have the kiddo processed. Had to give him her passport, but were still through in <5 minutes.

per above, kiosks at YYZ have the new photo recognition software and don’t ask any questions. At least my last trip ex-YYZ about a month ago. Only the officer asks questions (if they want) and those can obviously vary. You should still be declaring anything verbally to officer, as not answering questions on the kiosk does not waive you from any duties owed, item restrictions, etc.).
