13. (1982) Back in 1982, passengers desiring nonstop jet flights between Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport and San Antonio had a choice of three airlines. One of them was of course Southwest. Please identify the other two airlines and the aircraft type each operated on this route.

8. (1982) The Canadian rock band Rush is playing next weekend in Calgary and you’re excited to have scored two fourth row tickets to the concert. Although there are no nonstop flights between your home airport in Portland, Oregon and Calgary, you figure you’ll fly up to Vancouver and connect to Calgary from there. Alas, you can’t find anything but First Class seats between YVR and YYC. No way, man… that’s too much money. Hmm… what’s this? Well how ‘bout that?! There’s a daily three stop direct flight between Portland and Calgary that has two seats available at a fairly reasonable fare. Identify the airline, aircraft and the three enroute stops.

Hmm... yes and no. Per the schedules I referenced for this question, the flight was marketed as having been operated by Pan Am. That said, this was a cooperative effort with Emerald Air. There were no DC-9's ever painted in the Pan Am livery. As to the stops, here's what we know so far... MFE - ________ - IAH - AUS. Let's finish this one off!
And hey! It feels great to say Welcome Back and thank goodness that you all managed to escape the worst of Barry. Here's hoping you've successfully relocated to the high ground by the time the next big storm comes through. ^

Seems like the only other possibility is a Frontier 737; stops at BZN, Denver (DEN), Rapid City (RAP), and Sioux Falls (FSD)
For the most part, yes. Frontier is the airline of record here, and the 737-200 is the correct aircraft type. Now you just need to clean up the itinerary a little bit. Here's what we know so far...

I am taking Seat 2A’s response to mean that the aircraft in question was a CV5, so I will offer Wright Airlines operating via Detroit City Airport (DET) and Columbus (CMH)
You would be correct in your assessment of the Convair 580. In every other regard however, you are flailing wildly. As you must surely suspect by now, it warms the cockles of my heart to see participants as knowledgeable as you all flailing over any of my questions. I am taking Seat 2A’s response to mean that the aircraft in question was a CV5, so I will offer Wright Airlines operating via Detroit City Airport (DET) and Columbus (CMH)
You would be correct in your assessment of the Convair 580. In every other regard however, you are flailing wildly. As you must surely suspect by now, it warms the cockles of my heart to see participants as knowledgeable as you all flailing over any of my questions. I sit here rubbing my hands in glee as I await your next response!

17. (1983) You’ve got a breakfast meeting with a new client scheduled for Wednesday morning up in Austin. It’s a bit far to drive from your office in McAllen, Texas but thankfully there’s a direct morning flight that’ll get you into Austin at 8:25am. Two stops are made enroute but at least the flight is operated with a spacious jet rather than a small prop. Identify the airline, the stops and the aircraft type.
Well, I want to say the first stop was Corpus Christi.....however, in keeping with the wild nature of my initial guess, let's go with this Pan Am Express flight operated by Emerald Air with a DC9 flying a routing of McAllen - San Antonio - Houston Intercontinental - Austin.

2- I don’t recall FL with much Montana-to-Denver service down thru Wyoming after the Convair 580 days, so I’m gonna look in a somewhat more westerly direction and guess Salt Lake City (SLC) was the stop after BZN

I just want to say thanks to all of you for your patience with the large lag in my getting back to your responses over the past couple f days. Between a family emergency and poor internet connections, my response time has been slower than I would have liked. At present I am ensconced in seat 2F aboard an Alaska Airlines 737-900ER speeding southeast over northwest Wyoming toward Denver. $6.20 will get you an hour of fairly decent internet speeds on this flight. Most likely my next response to your responses will be either tomorrow morning or late tomorrow afternoon. Thursday morning and evening also look good at this time. You especially miss the large windows on airplanes like the Viscount, Convair 580 and Electra. Imagine then your surprise and delight to discover that in 1983 it’s still possible to fly all the way from Philadelphia to Chicago aboard a turboprop from the 1950s. 8. (1982) The Canadian rock band Rush is playing next weekend in Calgary and you’re excited to have scored two fourth row tickets to the concert. Although there are no nonstop flights between your home airport in Portland, Oregon and Calgary, you figure you’ll fly up to Vancouver and connect to Calgary from there. Alas, you can’t find anything but First Class seats between YVR and YYC. No way, man… that’s too much money. Hmm… what’s this? Well how ‘bout that?! There’s a daily three stop direct flight between Portland and Calgary that has two seats available at a fairly reasonable fare. Identify the airline, aircraft and the three enroute stops.

Hobby Airport is not a large airport. I'll go to each airline ticket counter and ask if I have to!
Seriously, having been to almost 100 airports in the U.S. as a passenger, it's an experience that not everybody has. Since mind reading is not possible, someday, maybe I'll sketch the airport terminals from memory. I can still envision the terminal at Hobby even though most of it was demolished around 1998. The check in part of the terminal was not too deep but somewhat wide, interrupted by the entrance / doors. To the left was Southwest. To the right were several others. Thinking about it, let me imagine walking through the check in counters, asking "does your airline fly to San Antonio?"
Selected airports in the US that I haven't been to include AUS (Austin, TX), ICT (Wichita, KS), BDL (Hartford, CT), PVD (Providence, RI), JAX (Jacksonville, FL).
