What I mean is, let's say I want to figure out how much it costs in cash and points to fly from HKG to JFK using BAEC miles, including fees.

If I put that into BA.com, it will only give me HKG-LHR-JFK for 60,000 BA miles and $500.

I know for a fact that I can fly other routes, like HKG-NRT-JFK on JAL or HKG-AMM-JFK on RJ for 25,000 BA miles and whatever the YQ might be. However, I can't find what that is on BA.com because it won't give me partner airlines unless BA doesn't fly that route.

What I already know is that KVS Tool will give me award availability for RJ and JL, but my question is will it also tell me how many miles and YQ it'd cost. I'm guessing at this point that BA doesn't make this information available publicly.

No. First, KVS just takes the data directly from the BA and Qantas websites, so you'll see the same flight award inventory information. However on BA.com you'll see the miles+cash options and KVS doesn't show that.

To further clarify, there are 3 separate components:
  1. Award Availability, which is relevant to the KVS Tool.

  2. Mileage Cost Information, which is static and readily available on the BAEC website at
  3. Taxes/Surcharges, which can be calculated/estimated via ITA.

Re-running queries -- how easy for multiple trips?

I've tried searching for this info, but can't find the answer either on the KVS web site or here -- apols if I've missed it.

I'm looking for *A reward availability from Europe to North America (west coast) on a small number of dates this summer. Currently unavailable, but of course that may change...

There are of course many ways of getting to the west coast. Can I set up the various segments of possible interest and save into My Trips, and then run all the searches with a small number of clicks/key strokes each day; or will I have to run each segment/search separately? The latter will be tedious (though better than ANA direct of course), and might make it worth paying the extra money for award nexus.

thanks.

Yes you can save your award searches into MyTrips, however, you will have to run each one individually by double clicking on it and then hitting search.

How many segments can I put into an award search?

Each search is a "leg", but the leg could involve multiple segments, I believe, as long as the award engine supports it. I just used UA and I tests HKG-LAX and I can see the connections. I believe the *A search (which uses ANA) will do the same but it is down for maintenance right now so I can't test.

Note that there is no way to force or only display a specific connection point when the leg contains multiple segments.

DONE4 Fare ex-KRT

There appears to be a discrepancy between the fare showing in KVS and the fare shown on the Oneworld booking engine

KVS
[KVS Availability Tool 6.1.2/Diamond - Sabre: Fares/DotRes/AU]
Code:

KRT  Khartoum Civil SD [HSSS]
KRT  Khartoum Civil SD [HSSS]
SUN  15 Jan 2012 | SUN  01 Apr 2012 | RTW | Business

Carrier    From    To    Fare      Cur                      Fare Basis/TD
---------  ------  ----  --------  ----  --------  ---  --  -------------
RJ        KRT    KRT      4684  USD                      DONE4

Oneworld

Price

Travellers Fare Taxes
1 Adult(s) x (5,496.00 + 523.87) = 6,019.87 USD

total price for all travellers 6,019.87 USD
Any ideas why?

Having a bit of a senior moment.. In trying to search for upgrade availability on UA flights, where can I go to see NF/NC? Can I see specific numbers, or will I just get FS+ CS+ YS+?

Change the method to X1

Edit: To be more clear (i.e. less brief :)), Use the Awards/Upgrades tab and set the method as ITA: Awards-Upgrades/X1 which will bring up the UA class availability including NC/NF/NY/XC/XF

Edit 2: My 1000th post!!

Same error here. Switching the method off of Galileo works though.

The [Galileo: Fares/PSH] Method issue has now been resolved. Please restart the KVS Tool for the changes to take effect.

ok, thanks.

Since ANA doesn't find all appropriate routings, I'll need to search segment by segment, so I've just gone with a set of imacros for firefox to directly interface to the ANA tool, and I can then search 12 legs in a single ANA search. A bit clunky but probably still faster than individually clicking on all the saved searches in KVS. I'll see how I get on with that approach. (Award Nexus would be ideal, but rather expensive for the number of searches I estimate I'll need to do.)
