It is becoming more clear.

I was able to replicate your results, when removing the filter for Star Alliance airlines, and requesting a display for all airlines.

My results were displayed with filter on for Star Alliance airlines.

Pandaperth's example (post #4816) was was ANZ only.

I am confused - why the Star Alliance option gives fewer options than individual airlines like NZ or SQ (I entered SQ - more fare options than my display, but less so than your example above).

You need to make your query more specific by entering an airline preference for your request.

But I would have thought that the Star Alliance (filter) option, would give the sum of the results for each of the airlines, which otherwise would have been displayed separately?

The Filter can only remove (filter-out) unwanted results; it cannot add anything that was not a part of the original query's results.

I am not able to retrieve my booked trips in KVS as usual with the click on the arrow. Checkmytrip.com is showing up, but only an empty website with the CMT-logo, but no trip data at all - just the logo and nothing else.

Is it only me experiencing these problems or not?

All PNR retrieval options in the KVS Tool continue to function normally.

Sounds like a web browser compatibility issue on your end -- have you tried the [Amadeus Classic] option?

Perhaps your shorter list is caused by your more restricted date range (12 Dec to 24 Dec)
Any fares that require a longer stay away will not show
Also perhaps some of the fares on my list are seasonal fares, and are not available in December.

The OP's dates are fine for most RTW Fares; it is the lack of Airline specification that limits the results.

Would love to know this as well. Don't see any way to signup on the GTC site.

KVS Tool shows availability but none exists

KVS Tool (latest version as of 6/1/12) Diamond:

Doing a search via Awards/AC-StarAlliance since I'm on a Mac, and the ANA method doesn't work. I'm using UA MP.

I search for 05SEP12, BIO-LAX (BIO-LIS-MIA-IAD-LAX is what I came up with that has availability (CS+).

I did the legs one by one:
BIO Bilbao ES [LEBB]
LIS Lisbon Portela-Lisboa PT [LPPT]
WED 05 Sep 2012 | 2 Seats

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability
TP/NI 1065 BIO 06:45 LIS 07:25 ER4 0 CS+ YS+

LIS Lisbon Portela-Lisboa PT [LPPT]
MIA Miami Intl FL US [KMIA]
WED 05 Sep 2012 | 2 Seats

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability
TP 113 LIS 10:00 MIA 14:15 332 0 CS+ YS+

MIA Miami Intl FL US [KMIA]
LAX Los Angeles Intl CA US [KLAX]
WED 05 Sep 2012 | 2 Seats

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability
UA 599 MIA 14:55 IAH 16:37 752 0 CS+ YS+
-> UA 1166 IAH 20:50 LAX 22:24 753 0 CS+ YS+

Sweet. 2 seats in C for me and the Mrs, and 2 seats in Economy for my kids. But, United shows no availability when I call up--none at all BIO-LIS, none at all LIS-MIA, YS only from MIA-IAH and CS and YS from IAH-LAX.

First I think. Damn, someone got them while I was waiting but I've called back several times over the last 48 hours and they continue to show on KVS but no dice with UA.

Second, I RTFM at KVS and read the two posts about StartNet blocking. So then I go use the ANA tool for the TATL LIS-MIA on 05SEP12 and it shows not availalble. But KVS does. So I'm confused obviously. Is this a bug? I'm going to do the search via AirCanada's website right now to see if it comes from them, but I'm a little concerned that ANA shows no inventory and KVS tool does. That seems to rule out the UA StarNet blocking, correct?

KVS, help...

For the 1st flight, it is an [Awards/AC-StarAlliance] Engine issue -- there is actually no Award Availability on that flight.

For the 2nd flight, it's a combination of the above, plus a segment marriage logic issue:

Thanks for the reply

Ok. I saw that AeroPlan's site also showed the availability, so it's clearly coming from them. I wonder what would happen if I booked the return through AC. I don't think I will because of the YQ fees, but I am curious as it let's me select the LIS-MIA flight....

Anyway, I really appreciate the quick response.

If there is no actual award availability, the booking will not go through.

Hi KVS, any chance of adding a StarAlliance/UA method soon as well? It seems to be the best at trying to manipulate connections.

Thanks.

Have you considered using he [Awards/AC-StarAlliance] Method, which also has excellent connection building capabilities?

belfordrocks Jun 3, 2012 6:14 pm

Yes, that's what I'm already using, but UA just seems that little bit better! AC works very well anyway, so it should not be a problem in most scenarios :)

I have to agree with belfordrocks. The UA engine is quite powerful and finds some obscure routings (like Asia from NA via Europe) that I don't think will show up on AC. In addition, it will also show QR availability that I don't think AC will show. Also (even if they are pointless), it will show UA Standard award availability.

Given my experience writing my script (see my signature), I could offer consulting services on getting the relevant data off of the UA award searches :D

UA Additional ("Standard") Award Availability is already fully covered by the [Awards-Upgrades/UA] Method and the UA-QR partnership (and the related Award search functionality) are about to be discontinued:

While there may be limited scenarios, where the UA Engine can provide some benefit, overall, it is very similar to [Awards/AC-StarAlliance], both in terms of data accuracy and route construction capabilities. Also, given the fact that both of the existing Engines have 100% support across all 26 Star Alliance member airlines, adding a 3rd one, may cause confusion to other users, who will not know which one to choose.

Nevertheless, we will keep the possibility of adding the 3rd Star Alliance Award Search Engine in mind.

Hmm... thanks

Another question- is there a way to view historical fares and fare rules? Thanks.

Help

Ran an award search using JL for a HKG-JFK flight in F.

Results show HGK-JFK, flight 888, two F seats open, with one stop (YVR).

Then, flight 888, YVR-JFK below shows zero F seat open? What does this mean? Why wouldn't the F seats be open on the connecting flight?

Sounds like another classic case of married segments. There is availability on the HKG-JFK route, but they don't want to offer awards YVR-JFK. You might also see the same if you search HKG-YVR separately.

Not quite:

CX 888 HKG-JFK (1 Stop), CX 888 HKG-YVR (Non-Stop) and CX 888 YVR-JFK (Non-Stop) are actually 3 different flights and each has its own Availability.

 Just when I thought I had things figured out. Are the HKG-YVR and YVR-JFK and HKG-JFK all the exact same plane? If they are, wouldn't seats booked HKG-JFK automatically affect availability on the "sub-segments"?

Would like to see more flexibility of POS for Fare searches. I'm sure other parts of the world are like this as well, but I tend to want to look at fares that are very specific to POS ex- certain Asian countries. Now it seems to be limited only to US, EU, RU, AU, UK which doesn't let me see many ex-China ex-HKG ex-Korea ex-Japan fares.

In the present scenario, yes, it is the same aircraft. However, it does not have to be -- CX can operate each of the 3 segments using different A/C if they choose to.

In either case, Availability is managed on a per-flight and not a per-aircraft basis.

Actually, the [DotRes] Method does not presently restrict displayed Fares by POS, so it would display all published Fares, even if they require a different POS.

The most likely reason why you are not seeing certain Fares ex-CN/HK/KR/JP Fares is because they are Private/Unpublished.

I just got the Platinum for 2 months to try... and I have already failed...

I was trying to piece together an open-jaw itinerary. Is there a way to do that and see fare availability and put together something and see the price?

There certainly see http://www.KVSTool.com/Planning-A-Trip.php, keeping in mind that Open-Jaw trips are built using a combination of 2 Round-Trip Fares.

I just installed the new version and after restarting the system all Login Data is gone (Membership Key, Airline Logins, Flighstats, etc).

Any way to recover this?

Simply installing a new version could not have caused any loss of locally-saved credentials.

Did you install the update into a different location? If so, simply re-install into the original folder.

Otherwise, do a search for KVS_AvailabilityTool.ini on your local machine and make sure it is placed correctly.

All installed the same way as for the other 10+ Updates. .ini was and is placed correctly, but had to re-enter all the information.

Tried to sign up for the 2 month diamond, just to see how much I actually will use the software.

Unfortunately I live in Dubai and when I click the "continue" button to sign up the page that loads is in Arabic.... I assume that it's looking at my IP source.

Might be worth you getting the payment people to change that KVS since many people live in countries where they don't speak the language!
