The AC class chart at the top of the thread has been updated to reflect the latest changes to the AC booking class structure.

Note that I class availability on domestic and transborder itineraries can now only be retrieved using the Galileo: ETR Method.

On the main KVS tool thread, I was told that consolidated fares are confidential to the travel agency, and not available through the KVS tool.

A related Canada-specific question - can any travel agent find cheaper (perhaps consolidated) business class fares (on flights originating in Canada) on AC or other Star Alliance carriers than the cheapest fares found on the KVS tool, and whether these travel agency-specific fares earn full Aeroplan status miles. I ask because I am thinking of flying business class to India (with my family) in Mar, 2008.

Or to put it another way, should I be satisfied that the KVS tool offers the cheapest business class fares, and if so, is there any need to go to a travel agent?

  • A: The choice is completely up to you: You can call the airline directly, use a travel agent, or book using an online travel agency (not all fares can be booked using the last option). However, first, be sure to follow the suggested steps in the [Using the Tool to Plan a Trip or Mileage Run] section of the KVS Tool FAQ to ensure that the fare is actually applicable to your particular travel dates, and that there is availability ...

I am new to the KVS tool.

I was looking at the cheapest offered fare from YOW to DEL - on AC (or any other Star Alliance carrier) - departing Dec 25 and arriving back on Jan 12.
The cheapest offered fare was CAN $1170 (listed on sabre/dotres). It obviously does not seem to be available, at least when I went to the aircanada.ca web site.

Where is your "Using the Tool to plan a trip" FAQ (I could not find it) - I would like to book for my sister-in-law flights, using your methods - with dates being flexible - so I can try to get that fare (on AC or another Star Alliance carrier) if possible, for dates close to those mentioned above, if not exactly those dates?

Thanks.

Published fares: no. Consolidator fares: possibly.

That would depend on the booking class and any applicable mileage earning restrictions, associated with that consolidator fare.

It's in the post right above that part of the FAQ: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...80#post2804880

Thanks, for the response.

I have 2 questions:

1) I used this FAQ on this problem quite successfully:

"Transferring Data >>>>>>>>>>" message is displayed, but results never appear:
This indicates a problem with your Internet Explorer Cookie settings. Goto your Internet Explorer [Privacy] settings, click [Advanced] and make sure that First Party Cookies is set to Accept.

Can you tell me as a nonIT expert, why for a few days, the results appeared after a few seconds, and then all of a suddent, the above problem developed automatically. I was able to clear the problem, as per your instructions above. However, what can I do to my computer to prevent this problem from re-developing.

2) Being new to your tool (for less than a week), it would be nice for other newcomers, to add to the FAQ by giving legends to your screens which appear for each of the different access methods/systems - when I started to work on some of the methods of the screens last weekend, many of the buttons, spaces etc were not automatically obvious to me (for example, the issue of the start/stop button that we have discussed privately, the issue of the date on the Sabre ZUJ access method not being relevant (by the way, I figured out that there may be a glitch here - when I add a date for the departure on the sabre dotres method, and then switch to the sabre ZUJ method, the date remains in the date slot - it can not be deleted).

Wow!!

This finally worked for me!

I never knew that one had to do this, as I had set my IE First Party cookies on "prompt", but was never prompted!!

Edited to Add:

Now that I have it working, and if I search for a *A BOM-LAX award, using "SNT", then I only receive an LH and an ANA (NH) itinerary, with no TG or SQ shown - is there a reason why?? TIA!

From your description above, it is impossible to answer the "why" question. As long as the setting remains unchanged, the problem should not re-develop.

The description of the [Sabre: Fares/ZUJ] method in the FAQ does state that it "lists all published fares for the specified route for the next 12 months". The date field is automatically disabled (greyed-out, and not cleared) to further provide a visual indication that that field is not applicable. It is not a "glitch", but a long-established convention for all Windows applications and is not specific to the KVS Tool itself.

Well, that's Microsoft logic for you :)

From the KVS Tool FAQ:
"When searching for awards, it's always best to check availability segment-by-segment (e.g. when searching for NYC-PAR, check NYC-LON/NYC-FRA, followed by LON-PAR/FRA-PAR, etc.)"
When you do that, SQ (and TG) flights will appear, e.g.:

[KVS Availability Tool 2.9.2/Platinum - SNT: Awards/StarAlliance/JP-ANA]
Code:

BOM  Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji IN [VABB]
SIN  Singapore Changi SG [WSSS]
FRI  01 Aug 2008 / 1 Seat

Carrier  Flight From Depart    To  Arrive    A/C      Availability
--------- ------ ---- --------- ---- --------- ---- ---- -------------
SQ        423    BOM  00:30    SIN  08:25    773      FS+  CS+  YS+
SQ        421    BOM  11:35    SIN  19:30    773      FS+  CS+  YS+

However, most programs will allow the "prompt" for the cookie - why is that the KVS tool doesn't do that?

Thanks for the segment feedback - that makes sense! Silly me, for not trying! :p

Does the number of award seats in each class show up, either via the KVS tool, or directly via the ANA web site?

As per my suggestion, I would recommend that the FAQ section be expanded to deal with the basics and idiosyncracies of the screens of each of the different access methods/systems. I believe in the long run, you will get less queries this way.

This Galileo access method only shows one class at a time? I ask, because I am interested in an access method, if it exists, that shows all revenue classes (for AC) all at once, and all shows the "I" class availability, at the same time.

If you answer is that there is no one access method that shows all revenue classes, and "I" class all at once, what is the simplest way to simultaneously display both sets of classes, from 2 separate access methods?

FlyerGoldII Oct 27, 2007 9:57 am

There is a big sticky on XM of AC planes.

The question is whether the KVS tool can help determine whether a particular plane on a particular route on a particular day has had its cabin upgraded; so that (for example, in business class) one has the business class "suites" with the flat beds; or whether economy has been upgraded so that there is an IFE at each seat?

Online Companion - what features does it add?

I can not understand what features are added to the KVS tool (Platinum level) by the online companion, that the rest of the tool does not provide?
