I'd be curious too, although this looks a lot more like TripIt in some ways, at least to me.

Combo

Tripit Pro for updates, delays, etc. Then Flight Stats to see other flight schedules and equipment changes, etc.

I also find that some of the airline apps have the best info...like United's incoming flight search info. When a plane isn't doing a turnaround to the same city, it would be hard to know the incoming flight#.

All in Combo these days. Info overload.

Just so people are aware, Kayak Pro from Amazon Appstore is out of date, and has not received an update since 2014.

The regular free Kayak app from iOS app store or android play store has all the same functionality and more with the same ad-free experience.

I've found Flight+ (now Flight Tracker) to be pretty good. I've used it to track about 15 segments so far. On Friday, it alerted me to United delays about 10 minutes before the delay appeared on the airport displays.

My biggest beef is that notifications are not reflected back into the actual flight. So if a flight is scheduled to depart at 9pm, but then you get notifications saying "Now 9:30", "Now 9:45" and then you look back at the fight info itself, it still shows 9pm departure time. Maybe that was a one off.

Also lamenting the loss of FlightTrack. Such a wonderful app! Going to try "The Flight Tracker" after all of the recommendations here.

I've tried all of the rest, I may as well try this one too.

But looking to download this for my iThing and it's confusing as hell with so many products with similar names. Is this the product made by Smart Mobile Software?

Never mind. Went back in this thread and found the particulars.

Darn, I miss my old Flight Track Pro!
I echo all of the above.

I have not found an iOS app that is equal to FlightTrack Pro in terms of features and alerts that go to my Apple Watch.

TripCase did okay during my test but it does not link to TripIt. When I go to Chile later this month, I will do a trial of AppintheAir since it has so many features and see if the lifetime cost of $50 is worth it. I also previously did a trial of TripIt Pro but it feel short of what I wanted.

I have thought that Flight Update may be the closest to FlightTrack Pro in terms of price and iWatch alerts but is the emerging conensus here that the $3.99 Flight Tracker (with TripIt + iWatch) is better than Flight Update?

The price appears to have changed, it is now $29.99 for 1 year or $49.99 for lifetime. Pretty steep price that I'd pay if I knew the app was going to stay around and improve over time. But after getting burned by buying the old FlightTrack and then FlightTrack5 which was prettier but functionally worse and never really improved, I'm not sure.

I'm with you.

Too bad some of the coders who lurk on FT can't build us a better app. I'm sure we could spec it based on our needs and I for one would be happy to help fund something like that on Kickstarter / Indiegogo.

Yeah, no thanks. Programming is never straightforward. You hit technical road blocks, plans fall through, life gets in the way, delays, etc.

If someone wants to build an app, do it on their own time and I will be happy to pay for the finished product at a reasonable price. But I simply refuse crowdfund things like this. More often not, we never a finished product and the person walks away with the money.

Totally understand.

My score rate as a crowdfunder has been about 80% to completion, 50% on original projected schedule. But definitely better for hardware than pure software for sure.

Having had (and continuing to have) professional gigs on both sides of the H/W S/W equation, it surprises me that the software projects have had bigger issues, but maybe it's the relative experience of the coders involved.

The issue that I see would be accessing the data feed which provides real time flight information and the cost. FlightAware does sell this data: https://flightaware.com/commercial/f...cing_class.rvt, not sure how it compares to other data suppliers. But almost certainly it wouldn't be a free product. Some cost based upon actual usage seems most appropriate though I haven't seen any apps that actually have that model. So its not likely to be something that might be done say as an open source project or a gift to the community. There would have be an actual realistic business model.

And besides that, there's quite a bit of work involved in making such a thing work reliably and have all the nice to have features.

It might be more realistic to fund an existing app developer to extend their app and add new features, or convince them of a business model that makes supporting the frequent flier community viable.

I really like this video (of flights that remain for 2017) that was generated by the free version of AppintheAir:

http://www.pctii.org/video/outsound.mov

On another note, I had a Flight Update app fail today as it kept alerting me to flights originally scheduled today which were canceled and removed from both TripIt and the app.

Yeah, AppintheAir is pretty for sure.

I still find the app missing some bit. Oddly, they don't support Air Canada's loyalty program in their app and have no firm plans soon to do so. While not a deal breaker, it's strange that they wouldn't support the flag carrier for a country but support smaller players.
