Flight tracking options?
Only today did I learn that FlightTrack Pro is no longer working.
I am trying out Flight Update Pro but it is nothing at all like FlightTrack Pro. I am searching but coming up short of anything like FlightTrack Pro with all it's features and sync with the free version of Trip It.
Am I looking in the wrong place for a stunning iOS app that also uses my Apple Watch?

Somehow I missed the news that FlightTrack (and I guess FlightBoard too) was ending. I realized something was odd today when all I got were error messages and I couldn't even find it on the Google Play store to see if maybe I wasn't the only one.
I too am looking for an alternative. In the meantime, it's great that Google seems to be automatically tracking my flights for me and even alerting me when it's time to leave for the airport!

Statement from Mobiata:
I am devastated. Flighttrack Pro (V 4.5.4) and Flightboard were my two most used apps by FAR. I absolutely loved those apps. Both Flightrack pro (V4, V5) and Flightboard will stop working completely March 1.
So what is everyone else moving to? I liked having a list of flights, not organized by trips like FTPro V5. I like'd having the scheduled/actual times (which it pulled from flightstats), and being able to input my confirmation numbers all into it. Things like worldmate (also going away) just looked kind of ugly to me. I liked FT pros easy search function as well. Looking for a new app now.

Dear Friends,
There is never an easy way to share disappointing news. So it is with great appreciation and respect for your many years of loyalty that we share the difficult decision we’ve made to sunset our FlightTrack 5 and FlightBoard apps.
For many of you, this isn’t surprising news. We haven’t provided much maintenance or improvements to either app over the past year. Regardless, you haven’t faltered in letting us know how much you love the apps. Although this is sad news, our hope is that over the past eight years the apps have served you well during your many travels.
So why are we doing this? The travel market is a rapidly changing place and companies, big and small, must constantly be able to innovate in real-time and predict market trends. Recently, Expedia’s mobile team conducted a critical assessment of the growing market demand for travel app products that offer one-stop shopping, itinerary management, and unique, customizable experiences.
Expedia, our parent company, is dedicated - as are we - to delivering this kind of mobile experience. To this end, we are bringing Mobiata’s passion for combining beauty with technical excellence to the Expedia app. Our goal is to contribute to creating the most visually stunning and useful travel app in the world. Don’t be surprised if you see a little bit of our FlightTrack and FlightBoard ingenuity appearing in the Expedia app down the road.
Going forward, what does this mean for you? While the Mobiata apps are still functional, they aren’t working in top form. You will want to consider selecting another flight tracking app soon. We have set forth a timeline of events.
Here are two important dates you need to know:
As of today, February 16, 2017, purchases of our apps are no longer possible on the Google Play Store or the App Store.
On March 1st, 2017, we will turn off our supporting servers, and the app will no longer receive flight updates, flight status notifications or be able to create and view shared flights using share.mobiata.com.
We do want to honor your recent investments in our apps. From February 22 to March 21, 2017, we are offering users who purchased FlightTrack 5 or FlightBoard after August 1, 2016, a $10 iTunes App Store or Google Play voucher per app (within 5-7 business days). However, you can submit your request now. Please send an email to [email protected] and include the following:
the name of the app store on which you purchased the apps (iTunes or Google Play)
the email address associated with your account
a screenshot of your receipt for each app purchased for verification
Note: To review your purchase history, click Google Play or iTunes App Store.
Mobiata has come a long way since 2010 when we joined the Expedia family to build their first app. We look forward to the coming years and the innovation that we will continue to bring to the Expedia Mobile team. We have a commitment to technology and travel that is unsurpassed.
We can’t express how much we have appreciated your love of and loyalty to Mobiata. Thank you for all your encouragement and the passion that you have shared with us. You gave a small team of dedicated people from QA to engineers to technical support the chance to delight you and help you travel the skies with ease. We are grateful.
Wishing you safe and happy travels always,
Mobiata

Sadly, I'm in the same boat - FlightTrack was a near perfect app for my needs. It had a very simple UI, accurate information and perfect set of features. I have been downloading and testing all available alternatives, and am generally unsatisfied:
FlightStats: Is relatively simple to use but only has a free version which is full of annoying ads making the interface difficult to navigate. They no longer offer a paid version to remove the ads. Simple things haven't been incorporated - like searching for flights brings up every codeshare. Moreover, the main screen doesn't show a real time summary of the flight - forcing you to look at the detailed screen to understand flight status.
FlightView: I have only tried the free version - the paid one is $3.99. It seems like this is the most viable replacement. They allow you to turn codeshares off, which is a nice feature. It doesn't offer the same information on the home screen but you can click through to "trip" to see a decent summary.
AppintheAir: This was recommended online in a detailed review that I found, but it's so much more cumbersome to use, is full of silly features that offer very little value and just add clutter. The basic version doesn't allow alerts, and unfortunately the paid version is prohibitively expensive ($50) to test drive. They also have the codeshare problem with a laundry list of flights across every alliance member.
Flight Tracker: This is just a very basic flight tracker that doesn't allow you to save a flight and monitor going forward. It's bare bones.
That's a quick review of what I have found - which is generally disappointing and not in any way a substitute. I'll probably use FlightView in the meantime and see how it works. Appintheair offers another alternative, but the "features" to me seem like mostly fluff and not worth $50. Hopefully someone builds a simple alternative that functions like FlightTrack - they could make decent money.
Others advise if there are others that function better?

I'm up in the air for Flight+ and FlightView, I may buy them each (only $4 each) and give them a go for my upcomming trip this Friday and see if any is better. I'm slightly leaning more towards flight+, with additional information from flightradar and flightstats as needed (plane reg, and scheduled vs estimated departures/arrivals).

One cannot segregate flights into different trips: the app only lists all flights chronologically.
A VERY annoying thing is that the app has a popup message that pushes you to review the app in the app store. This message pops us regularly (every few minutes or so) and it cannot be fully dismissed unless you actually review the app!
This app was probably the LEAST useful thing I have ever bought for $50.
I cannot believe there really is no app (even a paid one!) out there that comes close to FlightTrack!
I wish a bunch of smart kids looked into building such an app (but only after seeking input/advice from potential users, who can say what SHOULD and what SHOULD NOT be in included in an app like this). I guess this would even be a good candidate for crowdfunding? I would gladly contribute and I am sure others would too.

Chalk me up to another user bummed that FlightTrack has gone away. It was so basic yet so perfect for my needs.
I messaged The Points Guy on Facebook (not sure if anyone followed him) and asked if he could suggest a replacement. He said it is a great idea for an article so hopefully they will do a nice review and give some alternatives.

Thanks for suggesting this additional option - it also seems potentially viable, along with FlightView, though in no way is an equal alternative to FlightTrack. I did some testing of it and it seems to have the limitation of only providing updates on departure and arrival time, and not some of the nuance around wheels up which is often really valuable. The UI is a bit better than FlightView and it has some nice features to look up Flight Boards in airports and for different airlines. There are alerts that seem to function reasonably well. Again - it's not quite the same.
Lucky at OneMileAtATime did a review of FlightStats as one app that he likes:
http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.c...flight-status/
But I think it's super cluttered with ads, and lacking some of the advanced features of FlightView or Flight+.

I've also tried the free version of Flight+. Like you, I can't believe there isn't another app like FlightTrack Pro - I actually always assumed it was a pretty basic overall app and assumed there were others with much more features.

Yeah, Flightstats would be the basis for what I'm looking for, but you can't remove ads if you haven't already done so. It also only lets you look at flights one by one.
One of the things I liked about FlightTrack was that you could search more then +-/ 3 days. I would occasionally see how a certain flight was doing the week before for giggles.
I'm seriously considering learning how to develop an app like this. Really all I want is an information aggregate app, with the ability to let me keep a record of flights. I know this sounds silly, but I have almost 7 years worth of flights saved on my app. I occasionally go through some old ones to kind of re-live some previous trips.

FlightView and AITA
After using FlightTracker for so many years, I too despair with its passage (along with FlightBoard). Last week I tested FlightView (FV) side by side with AppInTheAir and FlightTracker in real time. As it happened, one of my flight was delayed into the next day, so it became a tougher test for all of them. I also judged the information they provide when looking at the iPhone widget they each provide. I don't know if there is an equivalent function in the Android world.
To start, I agree that AITA is not worth the $30 annual fee, let alone the $50 lifetime. So much noise! Neither it nor FV acknowledged that there was an active flight on the morning of the next day while trusty FlightTracker did display it.
During the normal day, the AITA widget just provides info about the next step you need to take (e.g., Check in) as opposed to showing you your upcoming itinerary. While FV showed the two legs of my trip, it didn't calculate the layover time between the flights--something FlightTracker does all the time. With AITA, you have to go into the app itself to see that information.
I'm going to check out FlightStats based on a post below but at the moment, FV seems like the best of all evils. I don't hold high hopes for the Expedia release, whenever that might happen!
UPDATE: I looked at FlightStats and rule it out based on the ad clutter and the lack of basic tools like connecting flight information. The search goes on!

I have rushed and got the paid version of AppintheAir, two days ago. Not impressed at all.

Flight+ works with Tripit
Flight+ looks better than FlightView. It also has tripit integration. Still not FlightTrack but works for me. Only $3.99

App developers, please come up with a replacement!
FlightTrack PRO was by far my most used app on my iphone. And while on a trip I used it constantly for gate and flight time updates. It was always reliable and quicker than using the airline's own apps. I liked having all my future flights listed in a row and showing connecting times between flights that was adjusted in real time based on the actual arrival/departure times. I was so disappointed to see it will no longer be an option. I have recommended it to so many travelers. Please, app developers, find a way to provide similar user interface and functionality!

Flight+ seems to have the most comparable alert/notification system. FlightView is nowhere near as robust on the notifications. However, there is no app that mirrors the capabilities that we've lost.
I paid $3.99 for Flight+ for the notifications and am using FlightView ($0.99 to remove the ads) and FlightStats (can't remove the ads, so it's the last app that I open; use only when needed) if I need to look up more details about a flight.
