As others have said - FlightTrack 5 was the single most valuable app on my iPhone. I take 200 flights a year and almost every day am searching for flights between cities. Seeing a list of every airline, without codeshares or connections was incredibly valuable. And then being to save the flights offline was also great.
I really don't understand what Expedia is doing - the customer base that uses this app is incredibly valuable.

What difference is there between the paid and free versions? Just no ads?
I've just put my 8 flights into it for the next couple of weeks and the free version so far seems ok (except for the ads).
As for the actual departure and arrival times (and thus, the actual in-flight tracking), at least for the airlines I fly, Flight Tracker Pro were not that accurate, so if I had the need to track in real time, I used the Flightradar 24 app (although that was reliant on the aircraft having a compatible transponder, in my region, some of the older Embraer 190s don't have them).

I was bummed about Flight Track going away from its original mission of tracking flights and switching to trips with v5. More sad about FlightBoard going away. That being said, what is the biggest obstacle that prevents a simple, uncluttered app that lets you put origin + destination + date from being created? 3 data fields and a search button and sounds like there's a market demand for it.

Agree. I never upgraded from FlightTrack 4.5.2. I just noticed this past weekend that while FlightView was chirping away at my gate change, my beloved FlightTrack was mute. It has been lobotomized.
Know what I'm really going to miss? The live wallpaper! I love seeing all of my upcoming flights represented behind my apps and widgets. Why hasn't anyone else come up with something like that?

Hello all,
I also am in mourning over flight track 5. I googled a replacement and came here to all these helpful suggestions.
I have tried App in the air and flight view off previous suggestions on a website. App in the air didnt have a map tracker I found and flight view was just very difficult and awkward to get used to.
Mileways has a useful bit of information such as people on board! but no count down from what i can see to when the plane lands. No flight boards etc
Annoyingly flight+ does not have the app in the UK so im stuck unable to get that...
What i wanted is
- countdown to flight like (1 hour 21 mins till flight)
- a map showing where the plane is (i know it isnt accurate)
- live departure/arrival boards
- useful info about the plane
But it appears that was just flight track 5....I cant believe its gone. Such a daft decision

Hi, I have just logged into the UK App store (on iTunes) and Flight+ (free version) is currently available. Searched for Flight+ and it comes up as the 39th choice out of 9 512 ... the paid version is available for 3.99 at nr 137 ...
Not sure what the case would be for Android though ...

Hey guys... appreciated the note that FlightBoard and FlightTrack are discontinued along with the refund too. Just got my iTunes card from them.
Cheers.

I have nothing useful to add to this conversation, other than to say I am beside myself with grief (as much as is possible over a smartphone app) that FlightTrack died. One of the most used apps on my phone after email and facebook and internet browser.
Whatever bonehead at Expedia killed this golden goose should be tarred and feathered. That was a loyal direct line for thousands of the world's top frequent travelers!

I hate it when a big corporation buys up a great little company and kills it.
I downloaded The Flight Tracker (paid version), and we'll see how it goes. At least I still have TripIt Pro for alerts, so all is not completely lost - but the way Flight Track Pro synced with both TripIt and my iPhone calendar was one of the app's most useful features. I hope The Flight Tracker will fill in Flight Track Pro's shoes, but that's going to be a tough job.

I have to ask: how many people who are not happy about the demise of Flight Track have raise grievances with airline's own apps that they have foregone in favour of FT? Unfortunately, 3rd party apps always carry the risk of being shuttered/acquired, whereas there is a lower probability of airlines going out of business.

Hi, I don't know, I was hoping someone else had paid up to find out ;-).
As far as I can see, neither appear to have close to the same functionality that FlightTrack had, or FlightBoard.
Ah well, just have to get used to dealing with whatever is closest ... PITA
