Listpro from Iliumn have just released this app and it's free!

Used to use this a long time ago on a PDA. Great for To-Do & Packing lists.

Might alienate Hollywood, with which Apple is trying to sign deals for content.

Plus, from what I've read, DivX HD uses the H.264 codec, which is what Apple uses anyway. So there would be no advantage to doing anything with DivX.

Divx is a player. It plays many codecs, not just H.264. Plus it is the most mature and reliable player there is, IMHO. I have a Samsung TV with Divx installed and it plays movies and TV shows from my USB disk just perfectly.

Social Media + Airlines = Airtweets iphone app

Here's my favorite iphone app - Airtweets -http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/airtweets/id380889045?mt=8

This app displays tweets from over 200 airlines worldwide. So u have deals from all airlines worldwide in one place.

This app has featured as the app of the week in the BoardingArea.com.

Google Goggles is now part of the Google Mobile App. Must have the 3GS or 4 as it needs an auto focus camera. It works just like the Android version. You take a picture of a book cover, bar code, land mark, store-front, brand, etc. and it will decipher the image and start a search. It can also translate foreign language, on a menu for example. Its obviously not perfect but a very neat addition to the app.

Dropbox

I've just started testing Dropbox (from dropbox.com), which lets you sync a folder of files between desktops, laptops and mobiles.

I believe it will help me primarily when traveling, because the important files from the desktop also will be automagically available on the laptop.

On mobile phones Dropbox seems to save links to files, rather than the files themselves, probably to save memory space on the devices.

The iPhone app, the computer applications and the sync'ing service itself (for less than 2GB of storage) are all free.

I use dropbox a lot. Works well, and you can even mark "favorites" which are cached locally so you can view a copy of it when you can't get 3G or Wifi.

There's also DropText, which lets you edit text files in your Dropbox.

If anyone is interested in Dropbox, they can PM one of the existing Dropbox users (myself, Middle_Seat, or others) for a referral, and both the referrer and referee will get additional free Dropbox space (base account is 2GB, you can get up to 10 GB free by referals. I think it's an extra 250MB per referal)

Dropbox is great

+1 for Dropbox. You can save a file locally using Docs to Go for those times when you arent connected. I have about 6 GB free thru referrals. I think Pages can save locally too but Docs to Go works better for me. A guy I work with has his entire computer on the purchased Dropbox. Also...

+1 for Pageonce- mentioned far upthread, but I am using it to monitor large credit card purchases, since I had fraudulent charges on a cc in July, and I want to know before Mastercard or Visa does.

Dropbox has totally changed the way I work on the road and even in the office. It is a game changer and more and more other applications are linking to Dropbox which only enhances it.

Care to expound upon that?

Is anyone using Navigon or one of the other turn-by-turn GPS apps. regularly for trips overseas?

Sounds like a good idea on paper, to buy a software app. and add the maps you want, maybe buy a cradle and you don't add too much cost over the iPhone or iPod Touch, which you have already for other uses.

But there are still slick standalone GPS units like the Nuvi 3790 out there now.

I'm wondering if one of the iPhone apps. are better at UI, with good multitouch support (something lacking in the older Nuvi I had, very sluggish zooming and scrolling), better navigation through various menus.

Also customizability, like perhaps saving favorites from locations found on web searches, like the hotel you're going to be staying in, if you could send the coordinates or address to the iPhone somehow and it appears handy in the GPS app. Or updating POIs or finding some mappings someone has of speed traps or other areas to be wary of driving into.

Another big part of it is trip planning, where it would be great to research routes or itineraries on the computer at home, then saving those routes on the GPS app. so that you don't have to try to figure out directions when you arrive at the destination, seeing if it has the itinerary that you found on Google Maps or Via Michelin.

I have a 3790 and it's incredible. I've only ever had one issue with it.... It's a UK unit and I purchased and installed the US maps before my trip in August. On arrival in Orlando (via Cayman Islands) I was giving a ride to a girl who I'd been talking to on the flight. I turned on the unit and.... Nothing. For 15 minutes I got no signal, somehow I managed to piece together the way to her hotel (I know Orlando, but not expertly) and even to mine before the unit started working. Coupled with hurricane style rain and it was an interesting trip to say the least! Silver lining, the fact I got her there with no help made me look better and I've never had a problem with the unit since. Great piece of kit, just slightly bigger and the same weight as an iPod touch
