That battle's already been fought--and won--by other VoIP providers (Skype et al.).

Jackal,
Perhaps... But I would not rule out google and it's integration of different services. If you mean the cellular phone vendors I do not know what they are thinking with regard to long term strategy.

One of the newer apps I've come to love is TuneIn Radio. I find that upon landing in a new city, I love being able to still listen to my Chicago based radio. It just makes me feel a bit closer to home, no matter how far away I am. :D

I meant that for the longest time, AT&T and/or Apple refused to allow any VoIP apps to work over data. That changed at the end of last year, and now Skype, iCall, Vonage, Bria, and probably dozens of other apps allow calling via data and completely bypassing the PSTN. Ergo, Google shouldn't be afraid of alienating the cellular providers (or at least AT&T), as they no longer seem to care about restricting voice over data.

iOS 4.2

iOS 4.2 will be out today according to an Apple press release. Make sure you upgrade you iPhone and more importantly iPads. Multitasking for the iPad at last. ^^

Remember that switch on the iPad to prevent the screen orientation from changing? Well it's now been changed to a mute button with no option in the prefs to revert back to its previous function. :)

The iPad needed a mute switch, that was one feature I really like about my iPhone. I never used the switch to lock the screen orientation so I probably won't miss it in that regard.

They could have at least left a choice for those who got used to the screen lock. Why is there a need for a mute switch if you hold the volume down button for 1 sec and it automatically goes to mute anyway?

I agree, I really miss that functionality.

I was disappointed also but the software lock switch is so easy I have gotten over it.

Myself, I'm happy that screen brightness is now easy to change while in an app.
