You may want to wait for the iOS 4.2 update before re-organizing your apps.
You will have folder support at that point. It's suppose to be out some time in November. |
I sometimes put all country-specific apps on a separate page and then move that page to the end when I'm elsewhere. I also manage my apps not just in terms of what they do (yes - I have a special page for all sports-related apps) but also how OFTEN I use them. The apps I use like once a year all get bumped back into a separate page that I keep towards the end.

Just have a bunch of country-specific or theme-based folders and they're placed by how often I use them.
This is a couple of hundred apps. on an 8 GB 3G iPhone. |
Can anyone recommend a app for keeping a 2yr old busy on a flight?

Even then, how are people categorizing? Whether in folders or not isn't the issue.

On my iPhone at least, where I have done more organizing. I have separate pages for news and sports, games, then miscellaneous (Yelp, Kayak, ITA, Netflix). I have found that I will sometimes keep extra apps on my phone to fill up each page so that apps I use most frequently I can place on the corners of the screen and are more easy to find. This gets a little more tricky with the iPad as the home screens can rotate and the apps will move, so only the first few apps are ever in the same position.

The Cut the Rope game is pretty fun if anyone is tired of Flight Control/Angry Birds.

Can anyone recommend a good English <-> Chinese/Mandarin translation app? Was originally wanting something I could dowload so I do not need a data plan when traveling in China. But now planning to get a long term SIM card on my next visit.

iPads for the Super-Elderly
We got my 91-y.o. computer-newbie mom an iPad in early October, and it's hard to believe how much progress she has made! She even figured out, on her own, how to move the insertion point for text to an arbitrary location...when I first got an iPhone I had to Google to find that answer.
She emails every day to a small but slowly growing number of people. There are some that she doesn't care to start a conversation with quite yet, and we let her be the one to tell folks that she has email. Now she is running into limitations of the device. For example, she wants to take digital photos and insert them into her emails, and then print out the results. I'm researching the Apple camera connection gadget for the former, and the various wi-fi printer apps for the latter. Christmas etc. is approaching, and if you have an elderly relative you might consider asking them if they would like to try an iPad. It has certainly been a benefit to my mom. |

My GM died a few years ago. I spent a lot of time getting her up with tech. speak rec software, DVR's for her shows, video conferencing units across the family, etc. But, the most interesting things we discussed were HER recollections of technology. Things like the TV, commercial air travel, TELEPHONES, microwave ovens, copy machines, etc. It was really a journey through time to talk with her about it all. (non relevant content - she used to tell me about watching the CIVIL WAR vets during veterans day in NYC) I miss her, a lot |
